TPACK (Technology, Pedagogy and Content Knowledge)

What is TPACK?
TPACK is a technology integration framework that identifies three types of knowledge instructors
need to combine for successful EdTech integration— technological, pedagogical, and content
knowledge (a.k.a TPACK).

EXPLANATION: Punya Mishra and Matthew J. Koehler’s 2006 TPACK framework, which focuses on
technological knowledge (TK), pedagogical knowledge (PK), and content knowledge (CK), offers a
productive approach to many of the dilemmas that teachers face in implementing educational
technology (EdTech) in their classrooms. The TPACK framework helps implement technology for
student education and teacher instruction. By differentiating among these three types of knowledge,
the TPACK framework outlines how content (what is being taught) and pedagogy (how the teacher
imparts that content) must form the foundation for any effective EdTech integration (the use of
technology to enhance the student learning experience. Utilizing different types of technology in the
classroom, including a virtual classroom, creates learners who are actively engaged with learning
objectives). Their contents help teachers and students to know what important information and
knowledge the students can get from their teachers. It is also says that technology is very important
because the flow of the studies of the students and the skills and knowledge they gain, they can
apply it from themselves and into real life situation.)

Technology has become an increasingly important part of students’ lives beyond school, and even
within the classroom it can also help increase their understanding of complex concepts or encourage
collaboration among peers.
(Explanation: Technology is very important to students and teachers because it helps in their
teaching and learning. A teacher’s tasks are eased or made easier especially in their teaching to
students, that they can make their presentations of their discussion using technology through various
applications such as PowerPoint, making video discussions, and so much more. But, the use of
technology is often hindered by teachers who do not know how to use it or do not have enough
knowledge of its use to teach students. It is not only difficulty in using or not having enough
knowledge that causes teachers but there are other reasons such as lack of access to the internet,
lack of time and other reasons. Nowadays we are in the world of technology or modern way of
teaching, many teachers are also constantly trying to know and learn things that help teaching
through technology. Because of these benefits, current educational practice suggests that teachers
implement some form of technology in their classrooms

Content Knowledge (CK)

This describes teachers’ own knowledge of the subject matter. CK may include knowledge of
concepts, theories, evidence, and organizational frameworks within a particular subject matter; it
may also include the field’s best practices and established approaches to communicating this
information to students.

(Explanation: The content knowledge explains that it is the own knowledge coming from the teacher
in terms to the subject matter. It contains also the best practices, teachings styles and strategies,
and the communication between the students and teachers. Teachers will disseminate an
information to the students which can help them to gain knowledge and understand what is all about
on the information and into the subject matter. CK will also differ according to discipline and grade
level – for example, middle-school science and history classes require less detail and scope than
undergraduate or graduate courses, so their various instructors’ CK may differ, or the CK that each
class imparts to its students will differ.
Pedagogical Knowledge (PK)
This describes teachers’ knowledge of the practices, processes, and methods regarding teaching
and learning. As a generic form of knowledge, PK encompasses the purposes, values, and aims of
education, and may apply to more specific areas including the understanding of student learning
styles, classroom management skills, lesson planning and assessments.
(Explanation: It explains that the teachings and learnings of the teachers and their knowledge of the
practices, processes and methods is very important because of the effectivity onto the students
learning styles. The purpose, values and aims of education and may apply to more specific areas
including the understanding of student learning styles, classroom management skills, lesson
planning and assessments it means that the connectivity of the teachings and learnings of both
teachers and students will going to have a better outcome.)

Technological Knowledge (TK)

This describes teachers’ knowledge of, and ability to use, various technologies, technological tools,
and associated resources. TK concerns
understanding EdTech, considering its possibilities for a specific subject area or classroom, learning
to recognize when it will assist or impede learning, and continually learning and adapting to new
technology offerings.
(Explanation: It explains that teachers will going to adapt a knowledge on technologies which they
are using it as their resources on their new form or way of teachings to the students. Having a
knowledge on using technologies will make their work become easier because technology contains
different types of software, tools and equipment to use. To the students, educational technology is
very important to them because for today’s world generation we are surrounded by technology so
that is why students also have a knowledge and skills on using technologies for their studies. )
