POD Product Owner

StreetLight Data is seeking a dedicated Product Owner to be the point person in one of our scrum team development
pods. The product owner will be responsible for partnering with a US-based product manager to define the product
vision and manage the product development process.

Reporting to the Director of Product, you will collaborate with our other product managers, engineering, marketing,
and sales to plan, build, release and drive successful sales and adoption of both new and existing products.

This position requires strong product management experience in data products and APIs (application programming
interfaces), along with expertise in analytics and statistical methods. A background in SaaS (Software as a Service)
and/or transportation planning or related fields is a
strong plus.

Candidates in Bengaluru (Bangalore) area that can eventually work from our office are preferred.

Product Owner Responsibilities:

• Collaboratively synthesizes and presents plans to stakeholders
• Acts as the main point of contact between teams and stakeholders
• Acts as a servant leader to the scrum/product development team to meet the objectives of each sprint
• Defines the task level specifications driven by customer needs
• Ensures that the Product Backlog is prioritized, emergent, estimated, and transparent
• Flags financial, strategic, and performance risks
• Maps metrics dependencies, blockers, and product risks
• Ensures the product fits the Minimum Adoptable Product standard

As Product Owner, you will:

• Understand the StreetLight organization, business objectives and growth plans, product constituencies, and
product management needs
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the transportation planning and operations industry through self-
learning, support of our internal industry experts and proactive interaction with our sales team, prospects, and
customers to support successfully developing product requirements that meet end customer needs
• Develop a working understanding of development process across the platform and product offerings, including
data science / data engineering and the feature commercialization processes at StreetLight including system
architecture, data pipelines, algorithms and machine learning techniques, web application back-end and front
end and APIs
• Develop and maintain an intimate understanding of our data platform and end-user products including
underlying data, validation processes, transportation metrics, calibration techniques and visualizations and
their applications in customer use cases
• Enable the development and commercialization of new data metrics for the transportation industry and their
integration into our platform
• Translate company strategy, business objectives, system-architecture, and voice of the customer into clear,
concrete product increments, epics, user stories, functional specifications, and other assets to ensure project
alignment and transparency for collaborators, sponsors, and project contributors
• Gather, generate, and align objectives from business partners, designers, developers, project managers, and
other functions within our business, guiding them into functional requirements
• Act as a representative for products throughout the development lifecycle to ensure outputs meet stakeholder
needs, participating in and leading key agile meetings, and resolving scope and technical conflicts
• Communicate product status to all stakeholders, including executive leadership
• Communicate effectively across the organization to provide the appropriate level of transparency on upcoming
Product plans, releases, & roadmaps to Executives, Sales, Customer Success, Support, and others with a need
to know
• Have ownership of product requirements and roadmaps while contributing to business reviews, strategies, and
collaboration between teams
• Work closely with strategy, product management, product owners and other business functions to evaluate the
business, technical, and strategic projects
• Work with the Data Science and Data Engineering teams to scope, estimate, and plan the implementation of
the product and coordinate its schedule with other deliverables
• Embed with and lead autonomous teams to deliver throughout product stages

Skills & Qualifications:

• 3 or more years of product ownership experience in commercial software companies focused on big data,
mobility, or navigation products and/or services that utilize machine learning in a quantitative field
• Experience in a SaaS product environment into the commercial/governmental market is a strong plus
• BS (Bachelor of Sciences) or equivalent in Engineering or Computer Science, or in Civil Engineering with a
concentration in Transportation Planning or equivalent
• Proven record of accomplishment of effectively gathering and transforming complex market data and
customer into insights to produce prioritized product roadmaps
• Demonstrated experience collaboratively working in a product development environment with data
scientists, data / software engineers, QA (Quality Assurance) and support to define and deliver products,
manage release schedules, and support Marketing and Sales in go-to-market education, training and
launch processes
• Professional experience in Agile Development methodologies a must have
• Naturally, a model-based thinker with good business and technical judgment, numerically facile with ability
to create new frameworks for data /information analysis, balance competing priorities and interests, and
evaluate and transparently communicate the trade-offs between execution options
• Superior verbal, written and visual communication skills that enable you to clearly explain complex
concepts to internal or external audiences through formal and informal, verbal, and written presentations
and reports
• Experience using a wide range of tools and technologies such as JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft Office
applications, project management tools GIS (Geographical Information System) systems a strong plus
• Extremely well-organized, logical thinker with a positive outlook that can take large projects and break
them down into manageable tasks with achievable goals and schedules for yourself and others
