CHAPTER 1: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The community service report shall have only a one-page executive summary. It shall include a brief
description of the Community and summary of all the activities done by the student in CSP and five or
more learning objectives and outcomes.

As per community service project, the topic selected is supply of municipal water in villages which is
new and has to be introduced in the village Panchayat because at present supply of municipal water is
confined only to the cities towns municipalities and corporation and Corporation limits. Although
water is the main source for evolution and origin of life it should be distributed equally among all the
people of the country without any disparities but it was in vague. Because supply of municipal water
in the villages is rare and beyond our imaginations. The government is mainly concentrating
concentrating and collection of revenue in form of taxes from villages, but they are in out of reach in
supplying the basic needs and amenities like the drinking water which is main source for supporting
the life.

In spite of above the people in the villages are not aware about their fundamental rights like right to
life and not at all questioning the local officials or authorities for supply of water(municipal water)
Even the water is not at all purified and not maintaining any standards which is to be set as a drinking
water by maintaining drinking water PPM.

Inspired getting the purified water or saved drinking water supplied by village panchayat the local
people are customised to buy the water from the private persons and also buying water from the
distributors who had got permission from government to established mineral water plant
(swajaladhara) to supply mineral water to local communities at a subsidized rates at the rate of 2,5
and 10 based on the interest of the licence holder.

I am feeling absolutely proud for giving me the opportunity to do project on supplying drinking water
in villages so that I got a chance to know the reality which I was unaware about all those issues even
though I was born and brought up in the village rampuram of Pendurthi mandalam Visakhapatnam
district pin number 531173 in which the project was successfully taken and completed.

Brief history about the community

The project municipal water supply system in villages has been

succesfully completed in my village rampuram village, pendurthi mandalam,

visakhapatnam district pin 531173.

Historical profile and traditions: The survey conducted village rampuram holds a
population of 6200 and it is different religions and traditions and stands a good example for
secularism.

Although in this modern era people follows the traditions and conduct a village festival in the
month of January and the month of May every year. This tradition has been Started 50 years
ago and has been practising till today. Although the village is located next city limits the
people follow the ancient tradition like rearing cattle, growing all seasonal crops without any
egoistic feelings irrespective of their status and contribute their part in achieving GDP of the
country.

Describe the problems you have identified in the community

*The main source available for drinking is well water.

*The secondary source is individual bore wells.

*As the supplied well water is not under 200ppm, the people are a customized for purchasing mineral water.

*Inadequate supply of chlorine or bleaching powder.

*Damage of roads due to leakage of pipelines laid underneath the roads.

*There is no proper covering laid on the top of the well, so there are more possibilities for the habitants like
birds to fall into it and lead to death. This may cause any health issues to the people who are consuming this
water.

*The dirt, dust, leaves from the surrounding atmosphere falls into the well and cause blocking into the
pipelines while pumping the water.
Short-term and long term action plan for possible solutions for the problems
identified and that could be recommended to the concerned authorities for
implementation.

As all of us know and aware that water is the main source for existing of life on earth. In consideration of
this issue water cannot be treated as secondary need for making short term plans. As it is considered as
primary and essential need, it can’t be postponed or planned for short term.

As long as the life exists on earth water is to be considered and give the
utmost priority than any other essential need and hence only the implementation of long-term plans are
mandatory. Like providing purified water without extracting the major and minor and essential elements
from the water. Rather than following the present new techniques like osmosis and reverse osmosis which
eliminates the original taste and quality of water by separating all the elements required by the body for its
daily functioning.

If the panchayat is unable to afford and meet the expenditure required for
supplying the safe drinking water than it is better to supply the water by following the technique of
pasteurization so that it kills all the bacteria and other viruses which exists in the water without losing its
odour , colour , taste , minor and major minerals present in the water. This technique is cheap and best one
that can be implemented with minimum funds available within the panchayat.
Description of the Community awareness programme/s conducted w.r.t the
problems and their outcomes.

As all are aware that supply of municipal water is only confined to cities, towns ,
municipalities and corporations and it is tedious task to supply municipal water in the
villages. The people without witnessing and blaming the acts of the government, it is better
to follow the ancient and traditional technique of boiling and drinking the water which
removes the hardness present in the ground water
Report of the mini-project work done in the related subject w.r.t the
habitation/village.

A mini-project work in the related subject w.r.t the habitation/village. (For ex., a
student of Botany may do a project on Organic Farming or Horticulture or usage of
biofertilizers or biopesticides or effect of the inorganic pesticides, etc. A student of
Zoology may do a project on Aquaculture practices or animal husbandry or poultry
or health and hygiene or Blood group analysis or survey on the Hypertension or
survey on the prevalence of diabetes, etc.
The Report shall be limited to 6 pages.
CHAPTER 6: RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS OF THE MINI PROJECT

1. In this modern era, people are more passionate of new techniques and new
articles
rather than ancient and traditional methods, like using the aqua guards or purchasing
mineral water bottles in place of boiling .

2. Although water is the main and abundant resource available on the earth, but it is
becoming
difficult to channelize and supply the safe drinking water to the people required.

3. Due to rapid increase of industrialization the underground water as well as the

surface water is
getting polluted, so that the people are mostly affected with dreadful diseases like
cholera and
amebic dysentery.

4. If this process of extracting and selling the water commercially for urging profits by
neglecting the
basic needs the future generation will have to face the great scarcity and availability
of water which
is responsible for maintaining the balance of ecology as well as the existence of life
on the earth.

5. Last but not the least “PROTECT THE NATURE AND NATURE WILL PROTECT US”.
