- Rights of an individual over his/her creative works

1. Patent
- Is an exclusive right granted for an invention, maybe a product or a process that
provides a new way of doing something

2. Copyright
- It is the legal term used to state the right of an author
- It covers works like books, music, painting, sculptures, films, computer
programs, databases, advertisements, maps, and technical drawings

3. Trademark
- Is a sign that distinguishes the products or services of one enterprise from
another

4. Trade Secrets
- Can be confidential business information that provides a competitive advantage
- These covers manufacturing or industrial secrets and commercial secrets

- Don't replace copyright but are based on it

- This can be slanderous or libelous statements that could damage the reputation

Photo Manipulation
- Didn’t begging with the invention of photo editing software
- It have been cutting up, combining and creating new work out of existing assets
- The art of using image editing techniques using software to add illusions and
transform the original raw photograph into a visually stunning and modified
version
- For artistic and aesthetic expression and not deception
- Working with images, layers, and selections

LESSON 3 - DRAWING SIMPLE OBJECTS AND USING
IMAGE AND COLOR TOOLS

Photoshop CS6
- offers various tools for drawing basic shapes.

SHAPES ARE ESSENTIAL IN DESIGNING POSTERS FOR SEVERAL REASONS:


★ Visual Appeal
- Shapes add visual interest and can make a poster more engaging.
- They help break up text and other content, making the design more dynamic and
attractive.

★ Structure and Organization


- Shapes can be used to organize information.
- For example, boxes or circles can frame different sections of a poster, helping to
guide the viewer’s eye through the content in a logical order.

★ Emphasis
- Shapes can highlight important information, such as titles, key messages, or calls
to action.
- Using a bold shape around text can make it stand out, ensuring that the viewer
notices it.

★ Symbolism and Meaning


- Different shapes can convey different meanings or emotions.
- For example, circles often represent unity or harmony, while squares can
symbolize stability and order.
- Designers use these associations to reinforce the message or mood of the poster.

- Creative use of shapes can make a poster stand out. Unusual or custom shapes
can make the design more memorable and unique, helping it to capture the
attention of viewers.

- Shapes can be a key part of a brand's visual identity.

and communicate the brand's values

DRAWING SHAPES AND MODIFYING SHAPE OPTIONS:

❖ To access the Shape Tools, click and hold the Rectangle Tool to see other
options.
❖ Select the desired shape tool from the fly-out menu.
❖ Click and drag on the canvas to draw the shape.

CUSTOMIZING YOUR SHAPES:


❖ Change the fill color from the options bar.
❖ Adjust the stroke color and width.
❖ Resize and reposition the shape using the move tool.

USING THE BRUSH TOOL:


The Brush Tool allows freehand drawing on the canvas. Choose from various brush
presets to change the size, hardness, and texture. Adjust opacity and flow for different
effects.

FILLING AREAS WITH THE PAINT BUCKET TOOL:


The Paint Bucket Tool fills an area with a solid color or pattern. Works based on the
tolerance setting, which determines how much of an area is filled. Useful for quickly
coloring large sections or backgrounds.

CREATING CUSTOM SHAPES WITH PEN TOOL:


The Pen Tool is used to draw precise paths and shapes. Create straight lines, curves, and
complex shapes by adding them and manipulating anchor points. Convert paths into
selections or shapes.
ORGANIZING YOUR DESIGN:
➢ Use the Move Tool to align shapes properly.
➢ Select multiple shapes and use alignment options in the options bar.
➢ Group shapes to move and scale the entire object together.
➢ Right-click on selected shapes and choose "Group."

LESSON 4 - ADDING AND FORMATTING TEXT

Text
- is a fundamental element in design, especially when using a powerful tool like
Photoshop
- It serves not just as a means of communication but as a key visual element that
can significantly influence the overall look and feel of a design.
- The hotkey for Text Tool in Ps CS6 is “T”

Filters
- in Photoshop are powerful tools that allow us to apply special effects to
images.
- These effects can help you blend your images seamlessly into your design or
create specific artistic looks that enhance the overall aesthetic of your project.

FINALIZING YOUR DESIGN BY ADDING FILTERS TO IMAGES:

STEP 1: INSERT AN IMAGE


- First, make sure you've inserted an image into your design. If you haven't already,
you can do this by going to 'File' > 'Place' or 'File' > 'Open.’

STEP 2: CONVERT TO A SMART OBJECT (OPTIONAL)


- To allow for non-destructive editing, It is recommended converting your image to
a Smart Object. Right-click on the image layer in the Layers panel and select
'Convert to Smart Object.' This will let you adjust or remove the filter later
without permanently changing the image."
STEP 3: ACCESS THE FILTER GALLERY
- Next, with your image layer selected, go to 'Filter' > 'Filter Gallery.' This
opens up a new window where you can choose from a variety of filters. Each filter has
its own set of options that you can adjust using the sliders.

STEP 4: CHOOSE AND APPLY A FILTER


- Select a filter that suits your design, for example the 'Watercolor' filter under the
Artistic category. Adjust the settings to get the look you want. Once you're happy
with it, click 'OK' to apply the filter.

LESSON 5 - SAVING AND EXPORTING FILES

JPEG/JPG
- Joint Photographic Experts Group,
- which is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital images.
- Best for: Web and digital photos.
- Characteristics: Compressed format that reduces file size by slightly reducing
image quality.
- When to use: Use JPEG when you need to minimize file size, especially for
web use or when sharing photos where top quality isn’t critical.

PNG
- Portable Network Graphics
- a lossless image format that supports transparency.
- Best for: Web images, especially those needing transparent backgrounds.
- Characteristics: Maintains image quality without loss, supports transparency,
larger file size compared to JPEG.
- When to use: Use PNG when image quality is essential,especially for graphics
with transparency or when high detail is required.

GIF
- Graphics Interchange Format
- a bitmap image format that supports up to 256 colors and animations.
- Best for: Simple web graphics and animations.
- Characteristics: Supports animation, limited color palette, small file size.
- When to use: Use GIF for simple animations or basic web graphics where a
small file size is important and color depth isn't crucial.

TIFF/TIF
- Tagged Image File Format
- a format widely used for storing raster graphics images.
- Best for: High-quality print.
- Characteristics: Lossless format that retains maximum image quality, large
file size.
- When to use: Use TIFF when you need the highest image quality for printing
or archiving.TIFF (.tif/.tiff):

PSD
- Photoshop Document
- the native file format for Adobe Photoshop that stores all image data,
including layers, masks, and effects.
- Best for: Ongoing projects in Photoshop.
- Characteristics: Retains all editing features like layers, masks, and effects;
allows you to continue editing later.
- When to use: Use PSD to save your work in progress, so you can keep all
editing options open for future adjustments.

EXPORTING IN THE SAID FILE FORMATS:
