What is GAMABA?
 The Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (National Living Treasures Award) was established
to honor traditional Filipino artists who have contributed significantly to preserving the
country's cultural heritage.
 It aims to recognize and support Filipino artisans and craftsmen who maintain
indigenous art forms, including music, weaving, poetry, and other crafts.
 This award is similar to the National Artist Award, but it focuses specifically on
preserving traditional, indigenous, and folk arts.

Purpose of GAMABA
 To promote and preserve Filipino traditional arts and culture.
 To recognize and support indigenous communities and artists who pass on their
cultural practices to the next generation.

Examples include weaving, pottery, chanting, music, and folk dances.

inspired by traditional forms. The line between traditional and contemporary art is
fluid, as traditional art forms can be reinterpreted in modern times.

spiritual connections to nature.
 Cultural Significance: The art forms reflect the history, mythology, and cultural identity
of the communities.
 Intergenerational Knowledge Transfer: A major goal of the GAMABA program is
ensuring that younger generations are taught these traditions so they can continue.

international audiences.
 Cultural Festivals: Celebrating traditional music, dance, and crafts in public events.
 Social Media Campaigns: Using online platforms to educate people about the importance
of preserving Filipino traditional arts.
 Collaboration with Schools: Integrating traditional arts into educational curriculums to
teach students about Filipino heritage.

particularly those that are in danger of being forgotten.
 It encourages cultural pride among Filipinos, both within the country and abroad.
 The program also supports indigenous communities, providing recognition and
financial assistance to artists who practice traditional crafts.
