FOREN 3 – FORENSIC CHEMISTRY & TOXICOLOGY 19

SCORE: __________
EXPERIMENT NO. 1 - B
THE MICROSCOPE
PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

I. OBJECTIVE/S: Familiarization on the different parts of the microscope and the uses of
each part and how to properly observe the minute specimen under the microscope.
II. MATERIALS: Microscope, glass slide with cover
III. PROCEDURE:
Place an unknown substance on a glass slide and cover. Place the glass slide on the stage right
under the low power objectives and secure it using the stage clip. Adjust the mirror to reflect
light through the specimen.
Peep on the eyepiece and try to locate the specimen by manipulating the coarse adjustment.
Adjust the fine adjustment for a clearer view of the specimen.
1. Identify the part of the microscope pointed by the instructor and give its function.

2. Start focusing using the SCANNING OBJECTIVE. ______

3. Switch to the LOW POWER OBJECTIVE. ______
4. Switch to the OIL IMMERSION OBJECTIVE. ______
5. Switch to the HIGH POWER OBJECTIVE and adjust magnification using the appropriate
knob. _____
