Section 1: Overview
This document provides desktop client operating system certification and set up
references for Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) client/server products. For detailed
information on any of the products, refer to the relevant product implementation or
user guide at Oracle Applications Documentation. For further product certification
information, refer to the Certification link at My Oracle Support.
The most current version of this document can be obtained as My Oracle Support
Knowledge Document 277535.1.
If you still have a need to connect to the EBS production database directly from a
client tool this should be done from secured, trusted servers rather than from end
user desktop machines. This should be done using a remote server environment such
as Windows Server Terminal Services, Citrix or Tarantella. For more information on
securing Terminal Services in an EBS environment, see:
For Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2, section "Using Terminal Services for
Client-Server Programs" in the Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 Security Guide.
For Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1, section "Using Terminal Services for
Client-Sever Programs" in Secure Configuration For Oracle E-Business Suite Release
12.1 (Document 403537.1)
For Oracle E-Business Suite 11i, refer to Appendix B: Oracle E-Business Suite
Release 11i Server Security.

4.4.2 Installation on a Windows Desktop
Step 1. Obtaining the Software
As stated above, Oracle Developer Suite 10gR2 (10.1.2.0.2) has reached end of life
and is no longer available for public download. EBS users can obtain this software
by submitting a media request through Oracle Support.
Checking operating system version: must be 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2. Actual 6.2
To work around this issue, run the setup.exe from Patch 10396165 instead,
specifying the -ignoreSysPrereqs parameter to skip the operating system version
check.
Unzip Patch 10396165 into the patch directory (<patch_dir>) on your desktop.
To launch OUI, run setup.exe from a Windows command prompt using the -
ignoreSysPrereqs parameter as shown below:
C:\> <Patch_Dir>\10396165\Disk1\setup.exe -ignoreSysPrereqs
Install Oracle Developer Suite 10gR2 (10.1.2.0.2) through your OUI session.
Note: Specifying the -ignoreSysPrereqs parameter with releases prior to 10.1.2.0.2
will result in the error Abnormal program termination. An internal error has
occurred. To avoid this, ensure you are running setup.exe from Patch 10396165.
Step 4. Upgrade Java
Oracle Developer Suite comes packaged with Java 1.4.2, which is end of life (EOL).
It is advisable to upgrade the JDK under your Oracle Developer Suite <ORACLE_HOME>
to a more recent JDK release. Do this as follows.
In case you need to roll back, start by renaming the existing Java directories
using commands like the following:
C:\> move <ORACLE_HOME>\jdk <ORACLE_HOME>\jdk_142
C:\> move <ORACLE_HOME>\jre <ORACLE_HOME>\jre_142
Download a Windows 32-bit JDK release.
All Java 7 releases are available from My Oracle Support Knowledge Document
2884004.2, JDK 7 Restricted Releases Overview. Ensure you download the latest
available release. For more information, refer to Document 2510500.1, FAQ:
Essentials of Java Usage in Oracle E-Business Suite.
When prompted, change the JDK 'Install to' directory (at the bottom of the
Installer screen) to <ORACLE_HOME>\jdk.
During the install you will also be prompted to install the JRE. When asked, change
the JRE 'Install to' directory to <ORACLE_HOME>\jre.
Step 5. Upgrade Oracle Developer Suite to 10.1.2.3
Upgrade Oracle Developer Suite to 10g R2 Software Update 10.1.2.3 through OUI by
applying the Win32 release of Patch 5983622 to your Oracle Developer Suite
<ORACLE_HOME>.
You must launch OUI from Patch 5983622 using the -ignoreSysPrereqs parameter as
shown below:
You will now upgrade the OUI Installer files from 10.1.0.5 to 10.1.0.6 in your
Oracle Developer Suite <ORACLE_HOME> through Patch 6640838 by following its README.
Ensure you select and deselect the components as stated in the README of Patch
6640838.
Before applying Patch 6640838, follow the steps below to remove 'Read Only'
Permissions on the OPatch directory:
Right-click on <ORACLE_HOME>\OPatch.
Select 'Properties' from the drop down menu.
Uncheck 'Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)'
Click the 'Apply' button.
Select 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files'.
Install the patch (through OUI) into your Oracle Developer Suite <ORACLE_HOME>, as
shown below:
