ANDROID WORKSHOP USING REACT NATIVE
Introduction: Every year, IEEE-VESIT conducts numerous technical workshops
covering various domains. The Android workshop using React Native marked the
beginning of the chain of these technical and compelling workshops. The workshop
was conducted by Abhijit Thikekar (Treasurer-D12A), Omkar Mane (EXECOM-D12A)
and Dinesh Kannan (Jr. Web Editor-D12C).
Concept: The Workshop was divided into two sessions, the first session was
conducted on the 30th of January 2021 at 3:30 pm, followed by the next on the 31st
of January, 2021 at 3:00 pm. The platform being Google Meet, the participants were
taught how to develop a food delivery application using React Native.
Modus Operandi:
Session 1:
The participants were required to set up a development environment for React Native
and install Visual Studio Code. The workshop commenced with an explanation of the
basics of React Native, by Abhijit Thikekar, which was followed by Dinesh Kannan
and Omkar Mane explaining the participants about how to create multiple screens,
the layout of the app and implementing basic functionalities like incrementing the total
cost if a food item was bought by the user and so on. Omkar Mane gave a
diagrammatic explanation about the internal layout of views, buttons and text which
made it easy for the participants to understand the code. The doubts were efficiently
cleared by making a separate doubt forum for the participants, leading to an
uninterrupted programming session.
Session 2: The second session was conducted by Omkar Mane, by continuing with
the code-along session and helping the participants to set-up the application about
receiving the orders. Every food delivery app has a system to track orders which is
implemented with the help of maps. Abhijit Thikekar taught the participants how to
implement this functionality by integrating Google Maps API in the application.
Eventually, the participants learned how to make an interesting Android Food Delivery
App, followed by an interactive doubt session.

BLOCKCHAIN WORKSHOP
Introduction: Every year, IEEE-VESIT conducts numerous technical workshops
covering various domains. The Blockchain workshop was conducted in order to give
the participants, overview of this in-demand technology, with the help of a hands-on
project. The workshop was conducted by Alisha Punwani (Sr. Web Editor – D17C)
and Abhinav Sharma (Executive Officer - D12A).
Concept: The Workshop was divided into two sessions; the first session was
conducted from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM while the second session was conducted from
1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. The platform being Google Meet, the participants were taught
how to develop a voting application with the help of blockchain, solidity and Ethereum.
Modus Operandi:
Session1:
The first session saw the participants gain information about the basics of Blockchain,
the comparison of blockchain with an ordinary ledger, and how blockchain is different
from the ordinary database. Some important keywords like immutability,
decentralized, and distributed trust were also explained to the participants. This was
followed by an explanation about the features of blockchain, like security, faster
settlement, distributed ledger, and so on. The current scenario along with the real-
world applications and the future scope of blockchain was also discussed. Solidity is
an object-oriented programming language that is used to write smart contracts. Smart
contracts play an important role in the blockchain. Keeping this in mind, the
participants were taught what are smart contracts and how data is written in a block.
Later, the smart contracts were deployed using Truffle, an open-source framework for
Dapp Development and smart contract life cycle management.
Session 2:
The second session began with the participants gaining information about the basic
syntax of solidity functions, which play an important role in developing any Dapp
application. Having learnt the basics, the participants were encouraged to develop an
election system in a hands-on coding session. Using JavaScript and Solidity, the
participants developed an election system guided by the instructors. Truffle
framework was used to compile the Solidity code and writing data to the blockchain.
The participants were then introduced to Ganache, a tool which provides Ethereum
crypto-currency for performing transactions on Ethereum Blockchain and Metamask
a chrome extension that allows us to connect to a Blockchain. In this way, the
participants were able to create a real-time, dynamic election system. This was
followed by a doubt clearance session, where all the doubts of the participants were
cleared.

ONLINE TREASURE HUNT
Introduction:
Every year, IEEE-VESIT conducts numerous technical workshops and events
covering various domains. The Online Treasure Hunt, known to be one of the biggest
events of IEEE-VESIT was administered by the council with full enthusiasm followed
by maximum participation from students from all branches and societies.
Concept:
The Online Treasure Hunt was a 24-hour event, starting from 20th February 2021 at
8 pm, the event was concluded on 21st February 2021 at 8 pm. The event basically
was an online quiz competition where the participants were taken through an
astounding storyline drafted by the council. The participants were first challenged by
a set of aptitude questions. After they clear this first stage, the event was then
bifurcated into two majors namely COMPS/IT & EXTC/ETRX/INST (the questions
were asked accordingly). The questions were designed in such a way that the
participants could not get the desired answer by accessing any of the resources such
as the internet or books, which made the questions more rigorous.
Modus Operandi:
Day 1: The event started on 20th February 2021 at 8 pm. The website was accessible
through all devices (mobile/ laptop/tablets) and supported all browsers. The event was
free for the members as well as the non - members of the council. The questions
being challenging, supported by its amazing storyline, the event crossed around 140+
participants on the first day itself. The image below depicts a glimpse of the website.
Day 2: The event was continued the next day viz. on 21st February 2021 as there
was no break in between the participants were free to log in, anytime they want on
the website. Due to the overwhelming participation showed at the event with 230+
participants, the event timing was postponed from 4 pm to 8 pm. Finally, there were
6 students (3 from each domain) who cleared it with the highest credentials. The
winners were as follows:
CMPN/IT EXTC/ETRX/INST
32
Participation: Around 231 students participated in the event, making it yet another
success. This event not only increased the knowledge of the participants but also
enhanced critical thinking and deep knowledge of various concepts.

CLOUD COMPUTING WORKSHOP
Introduction:
Every year, IEEE-VESIT conducts numerous technical workshops covering various
domains. The Cloud Computing workshop was conducted in order to give the
participants, overview of this in-demand technology, with the help of a hands-on
project. The workshop was conducted by Alisha Punwani (Sr. Web Editor – D17C),
Omkar Mane (EXECOM-D12A) and Dinesh Kannan (Jr. Web Editor - D12C).
Concept: The workshop was conducted on 4th April, 2021. The timings of the
workshop were 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The platform being Google Meet, the
participants were taught the basics of cloud computing, its working, advantages and
disadvantages, its future scope along with its implementation on Qwiklabs and
Amazon Web Services.
Modus Operandi:
The session was initiated by Omkar Mane, who gave the participants an introduction
about Cloud Computing and its origins, its different types along with its architecture,
different platforms available for use. The advantages and disadvantages of different
platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and son
were discussed along with how and when to use them.
In order to give the participants a hands-on experience, Qwiklabs was chosen as an
ideal learning platform. After the participants had created their account on Qwiklabs,
they were directed to start their first lab, which was conducted by Alisha Punwani. The
lab taught the participants about the cloud shell and Google Cloud Platform. The
participants executed various commands in the cloud shell which gave them a
complete idea about the basics of cloud computing.
The second lab was based on a real-life scenario. The participants had to host their
own website on the cloud, an integral skill in today’s industry. Following the instructions
of Dinesh Kannan, the participants first created a sample website on WordPress and
then configured it to Amazon EC2. An amazon S3 bucket was created by all the
participants with static website hosting enabled. As soon as this was done, the
participants generated their static websites on WordPress. After this step, the
participants were instructed on how to upload the WordPress static website on
Amazon S3 bucket. Lastly, the participants created scripts to make changes in the
hosted website.
Thus, the participants learnt about Cloud Computing in theory and in practice.
Participation: The workshop was attended by 57 participants who gained knowledge
about cloud computing

TECHNICAL PAPER PRESENTATION
Introduction:
Every year, IEEE-VESIT conducts numerous technical workshops and events
covering various domains. The Technical Paper Presentation seminar was organized
by the council to highlight the importance of technical and research paper in one’s
academic and professional life.
Concept:
The Technical Paper Presentation seminar was conducted on 10th April, 2021 from
11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The seminar, which was conducted on Google Meet, taught
the participants, the importance of technical papers, how to systematically search for
them along with techniques to quickly gauge the underlying concept of the research
paper. The speaker for the seminar was Mrs. Priya R.L, faculty member at the
Computer Engineering department.
Modus Operandi:
The seminar started with Mrs. Priya R.L giving an introduction about research papers
and their importance in the academic and professional life of the students. The
highlight of the introduction was the point that a good research paper is a combination
of technical knowledge and excellent writing skills. The session progressed with the
explanation about various journals, their ranking, selecting the right journal for
publication and information about various conferences. Tools for writing a research
paper like Overleaf, Latex, MS Word were also discussed. Steps for writing a technical
or a research paper were the highlight of the remaining session.
Mrs. Priya R.L explained the IEEE format of research paper and gave techniques for
writing a good abstract and introduction. This was followed by the steps for doing a
literature survey. Cite as you write was the point made during the explanation about
literature survey. Explanation about the methodology section was given next. During
the course of this explanation, the importance of easy to understand, clear diagrams
and figures was also explained. Mrs. Priya R.L also highlighted the importance of
rough documentation to keep record of the work done. Rough documentation and
notes help in writing the methodology in a clear, concise manner. As every system
has a scope of improvement, these improvements were to be mentioned in the
dedicated section of future works. The explanation about the conclusion of the paper
was given next. It included points like giving a proper summary of the methodology
and not adding any new points. The importance of the references section was
highlighted next. The format of citations for giving due credit to the original work was
also discussed.
Later, Mrs. Priya R.L instructed the students about the Do’s and Don’ts of writing a
research paper. This included points like plagiarism, originality of work, identifying
predatory journals and so on. The seminar concluded with the question-and-answer
session.
59
Participation: 105 students participated in the event, making it yet another successful
event.

CASE CLOSED
Introduction:
IEEE-VESIT conducts many events as a part of Praxis, the annual technical festival
of VESIT. This academic year during e-Praxis, IEEE-VESIT conducted Case
Closed, one of its most popular events in the online mode.
Concept:
Case Closed was conducted on 21st April, 2021 from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The platform
for the event was Gather.town, an online platform which is free to use. The event is
based on the movie, “The Matrix”, and uses some ideas for the movie for comic relief
as players navigate through the maze trying to solve the technical questions posed by
their adversaries. The players have to play in teams of 3 and the concept of the event
is as follows:
Morpheus has been captured and must not communicate, otherwise the Cyphers and
the Smiths will acquire the codes to the mainframe computers in Zion, the land of the
free. Neo and Trinity have decided to rescue Morpheus from The Matrix, destroy The
Matrix and rescue the “plugged” humans. Your group plays the role of Morpheus, Neo
and Trinity trapped in this simulated world, The Matrix, capable of harvesting humans’
bioelectric power.
Modus Operandi:
The sole aim of this mega event was to cohesively focus on young tech minds and
bring out the analytical skills and technical competence in them. The winning
criterion were:
1. The first team to reach 500 points wins the game.
2. The team which survives all attacks made by other teams and at the same time,
defeats all other teams by making similar attacks using attack cards wins the game.
As it goes in the movie, each team has three members, Morpheus, Neo and Trinity.
Morpheus has been captured in the Matrix by the agents of Hades, the artificial
intelligence antagonist so as to acquire access to the world of humans. To portray the
capture of the Morpheus, each Morpheus from the 6 teams which entered the maze
at once was made to sit in a different area in the online platform of Gather.town. The
Morpheus had to solve a series of puzzles and questions to acquire points, with the
help of which, 2 types of cards can be bought viz, attack card and defence card. The
attack card can be used to sabotage the efforts of other teams while the defence card
is to protect oneself from attacks made by other teams. The main objective of Neo
and Trinity is to traverse the maze, all the while encountering agents and defeating
them by solving the questions posed by them, thus acquiring points. The Morpheus
was to communicate with the other two members so that they can use the cards
earned by Morpheus to attack other teams with the help of Operators, who are neutral
non-playable characters helping the players in managing the attacks and defences.
67
At the end of the time slot, the team fulfilling either of the winning criterion was
declared the winner.

MASTERMIND
Introduction:
IEEE-VESIT conducts many events as a part of Praxis, the annual technical festival
of VESIT. This academic year during e-Praxis, IEEE-VESIT conducted Mastermind,
one of its most popular events in the online mode.
Concept:
Mastermind was conducted on 21st April, 2021. The technical team comprising of
Alisha Punwani (Sr. Web Editor-D17C), Abhijit Thikekar (Treasurer-D12A), Omkar
Mane (EXECOM-D12A), Aditya Mohan (Jr. Web Editor-D17C) and Dinesh Kannan
(Jr. Web Editor-D17C), did a commendable job in building the website for Mastermind
from scratch providing a bug free online event to the participants. The concept of the
game is as follows:
A memory game with a little bit of twist where the participants would have to answer
questions to open the memory tile and then match the similar tiles within a very short
time span. It was designed so that the students should be able to test and improve
their memory power and also test their aptitude and challenge their brain with brain
teasers and interesting questions.
Modus Operandi:
Participants are provided with a 10x10 grid with shuffled tiles. For the first 5 seconds,
the entire grid is revealed and the players have to try to memorize it as much as they
can. After the initial 5 seconds, a 10-minute countdown begins and the tiles are
flipped! Now the players need to match the tiles of the grid. There are three types of
tiles which either increase or decrease your score. If the player matches two bonus
tiles, the score of the player increases. On the other hand, if the player matches two
penalty tiles, the score decreases. If the player matches two question tiles, a question
pops up. If answered correctly, bonus points are awarded to the player. If the answer
is incorrect, points are deducted. If the question is too difficult for the player to answer,
there is always an option to skip the question!
Participation:
The event saw a participation of 161 students making this a successful event.

The Overlord: Battle of Kingdoms
Introduction: Every year, IEEE-VESIT conducts numerous technical workshops and
events covering various domains. The Overlord: Battle of Kingdoms, was administered
by the coordinators of the council with full enthusiasm followed by maximum desired
participation from students from all branches and societies of the second year.
Concept: The Overlord: Battle of Kingdoms was a three-hour event scheduled on 24th
April, 2021 from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. This fun event was designed as well as
conducted by the Coordinators of IEEE-VESIT, exclusively for the second-year
students. This event was divided into two stages, Stage-1 and Stage-2. The storyline
of the event, inspired by various fictional affairs of warriors and kingdoms, was
designed as such that the participants excelling in Stage-1 were directed to Stage-2,
getting the privileges of the points they scored in the previous stage. Furthermore, a
leader-board was maintained by the coordinators so that the participants would get
the exact status of their ranking.
Modus Operandi:
Stage 1:
Stage 2:
Top six teams were qualified for Stage-2. The participants were evaluated on the
basis of the points they scored and the total number of gold (conversion factor) they
earned in the previous stage. The Stage-2 was hosted by 1 coordinator with 6
coordinators working in the back-end. The six teams were divided into two alliances
where they had to compete in order to win the event. The two alliances were made to
attend two different meets where the participants were able to interact with each other.
The record of the number of points earned and leader board was displayed on the
screen itself, so that the participants were able to track their progress. All the
participants played with great zeal and strategically interacted with the fellow
participants in order to be the elite alliance.
78
Participation:
Over 54 students from the second year participated in the event, making it yet another
success. The participants not only enjoyed, but also were grateful to the council to
organize such kind of events amidst the pandemic where they were given an
opportunity to play as well as interact with their friends.
