Content overview
• Intended areas of use
• The MRI Environment
• TeslaSpy
• Specialities HAMILTON-MR1
Intended areas of use

Intended areas of use

• In the MRI department

• In the intensive care ward or in the

recovery room

• During transfer of ventilated patient

within the hospital

Risks
• Strong magnetic field
Forces on ferromagnetic objects

• Rapidly changing magnetic fields (switched gradients, 0.2ms switching time)

Induction of currents, nerve stimulation, significant noise

• Radio frequency field (excitation pulses)

Warming, strong heating at resonance in conductors (cables, wires)
Keep yourself safe!
MR Conditional vs MR Safe
MR Conditional
Conditions need to be stated by the manufacturer

MR Safe
An item that poses no known hazards in all MRI
environments. Include non-conducting, non-
metallic, non-magnetic items such as a plastic
Petri dish.
The static magnetic field is ALWAYS present
TeslaSpy®

21.04.2015
TeslaSpy®: Making the invisible visible

• Guidance through the magnetic field

• Functional even if the ventilator is
switched off
Performance – closer to the patient

• The HAMILTON-MR1 is designed to

withstand a static magnetic field of 50mT

• This is equivalent to 1m for a 3T scanner

Typical spatial distribution of surrounding field

Green LED: Magnetic field is within acceptable limits (≤

Yellow LED: Magnetic field is high (>50 - 100 mT).

The HAMILTON-MR1 needs to be pulled back.
Red LED: Magnetic field is unacceptably high (> 100mT). The HAMILTON-MR1 needs to be
serviced by a certified technician.
Red X LED: There is a technical fault with the TeslaSpy navigator. The HAMILTON-MR1 needs
to be serviced by a certified technician.
