INTRODUCTION :
❖ Water pollution is a growing global concern, impacting
human health and the environment.

❖ Traditional water monitoring methods are often limited,

lacking real-time data.

❖ Our project aims to create a device that provides

continuous monitoring of water quality, enabling timely
responses to pollution.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Issue:
Water pollution affects millions of people worldwide,
leading to health issues and environmental degradation.

Challenges:
▪ Inefficiency in current monitoring methods.
▪ Delays in detecting and responding to pollution events.

Need:
A reliable, real-time water quality monitoring solution.
TARGET AUDIENCE/SOCIAL BENEFIT:
Target Audience:
➢ Local communities reliant on water bodies.
➢ Environmental organizations and NGOs.
➢ Government agencies focused on public health and
environmental protection.

Social Benefits:

➢ Provides timely information to protect public health.

➢ Empowers communities to take immediate action against
water pollution.
➢ Encourages public awareness and involvement in water
conservation efforts.
EXISTING SOLUTIONS:
Current Monitoring Solutions:
➢ Often expensive and limited to governmental or research
institutions.
➢ Rely on manual sampling, which delays results and response.
➢ Lack real-time data, leading to unaddressed pollution issues.

Gap:
Existing solutions do not provide accessible and continuous
monitoring options for local communities.
PROPOSED INNOVATIONS/
IMPROVEMENTS
Innovative Features:
Comprehensive Sensor Array:
The device will integrate multiple sensors that measure:

Turbidity:
Indicates water clarity and presence of suspended particles.

pH Levels:
Monitors acidity or alkalinity, crucial for aquatic life.

Dissolved Oxygen (DO):

Essential for aquatic organisms; low levels indicate
pollution.

Nitrate and Phosphate Levels:

High concentrations can lead to harmful algal blooms.

Toxic Chemical Sensors:

Detect harmful substances such as heavy metals and
pesticides.

Real-Time Data Transmission:

• The device will send data to a mobile app, allowing users
to monitor water quality continuously.
• Alerts will notify users of critical changes in water
quality, ensuring immediate awareness and action.
PROPOSED INNOVATIONS/
IMPROVEMENTS
Innovative Features:
User-Friendly Mobile App:
• The app will feature an intuitive interface that
displays real-time data, historical trends, and alerts.
• Users can view detailed explanations of each water
quality parameter, making it accessible to non-
experts.
• Educational resources will be included to raise
awareness about water pollution and conservation
practices.

Community Engagement Features:

• Users can report local water quality issues directly
through the app.
• Community forums will promote discussion and
knowledge-sharing among users.

Environmental Impact:

By empowering communities to monitor and

report water quality, the project aims to foster proactive
environmental stewardship.
FEASIBILITY
Technical Feasibility

❑ Our project is technically feasible, utilizing commonly available and

affordable sensors to monitor critical water quality parameters
such as turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen, nitrates, phosphates, and
toxic chemicals.
❑ We will employ user-friendly microcontrollers like Arduino or
Raspberry Pi to process the data.
❑ Additionally, we plan to develop a mobile app that allows users to
access real-time data effortlessly. To ensure effective operation, we
will provide brief training sessions to familiarize users with the
device.

Operational Feasibility

❑ Operationally, we believe this project can be successfully

implemented.
❑ We will conduct simple training sessions to equip users with the
knowledge to operate the device and interpret data.
❑ Local technicians will be available to perform regular maintenance
and sensor calibration, ensuring the device operates effectively
over time.
❑ The design allows for easy deployment in local water bodies,
enabling real-time monitoring that can significantly benefit the
community.
ESTIMATED COSTS:
▪ Arduino nano - ₹ 400
▪ Turbidity sensor - ₹ 800
▪ pH sensor - ₹ 800
▪ DO(Dissolved Oxygen) sensor - ₹ 3500
▪ Microbial fuel cell - ₹ 2500
▪ Colorimetric sensor - ₹ 700
▪ Miscellaneous- ₹ 500
▪ Enclosure- ₹ 500
▪ Total - ₹ 9700

CONCLUSION:
✓ The Water Quality Monitoring Device is an innovative
solution to address the critical issue of water pollution.

✓ By providing real-time data and fostering community

engagement, this project aims to enhance public health
and environmental safety.

✓ We invite support for the development and

implementation of this device to contribute to cleaner,
safer water for all.
