I. INTRODUCTION
In the field of multimedia and web development, professionals face situations that require
balancing their personal and professional interests. Conflicts of interest are common in this area, as
tensions may arise between project objectives, client expectations, and the developer's individual
aspirations. This essay analyzes a case of conflict of interest in the context of a multimedia and
web development technologist at the National Learning Service (SENA), evaluating the positions
for and against, supported by relevant arguments and opinions.
A student in the SENA multimedia and web development technologist program, while undergoing
training, is hired by an external company to create a website. The company has clear expectations
regarding design, functionality, and deadlines. However, during development, the student finds
himself in a dilemma where personal interests clash with those of the client. The student has the
opportunity to implement a new emerging technology that excites him and that he believes would
significantly improve the project. However, this technology requires more time and resources than
initially agreed upon, which could negatively affect the client relationship and meeting deadlines.
My stance on the conflict of interest is based on a careful evaluation of the different factors at play.
I believe that integrating the new technology could enhance the quality of the final product, leading
to greater long-term client satisfaction. As Steve Jobs once said: "Quality is more important than
quantity. One home run is much better than two doubles" (Miguel López, 2024). This statement
reinforces the idea that prioritizing product quality is essential.
Furthermore, I support the implementation of new technologies that provide the student with
valuable experience and skills for their professional development. Albert Einstein stated: "The

mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size" (Conny Muñoz, 2019),
emphasizing the importance of personal growth through exploration and experimentation.
Additionally, using innovative technologies could highlight the student as a visionary professional
in their field, opening doors to future business and collaboration opportunities. Bill Gates said: "I
believe in innovation and that the way to innovate is to invest in research and understand the basic
principles" (Marta Guerri, 2016). This statement emphasizes the importance of innovation in
staying competitive in an ever-changing market.
However, I disagree that the additional investment of time and resources in implementing the new
technology could generate additional costs for both the student and the company, without a
guaranteed significant return on investment. As Peter Drucker stated: "There is nothing so useless
as doing efficiently something that should not be done at all" (IEB, 2021). This quote highlights the
importance of carefully weighing risks and benefits before making critical decisions.
Lastly, prioritizing personal interests over those of the client can raise ethical dilemmas and
questions about the student's professional integrity, which I do not support. As Elon Musk said:
"Working 100 hours 'is easy' if you really love what you do because you won't consider it work"
(GQ, 2018). This statement highlights the importance of maintaining an ethical work balance
focused on overall well-being.
In conclusion, while the implementation of new technologies may offer significant benefits, it is
essential to carefully evaluate the impact it may have on the client relationship and the workflow to
ensure a balance between innovation and professional responsibility is achieved.
