Mini Marke)ng Case Analysis #6

Grocery Delivery Impact on Supply Chain

1. Explain the importance of getting the supply chain “ right” for a successful
Walmart grocery business. Can it succeed in this business without getting this
right?

Walmart's grocery business depends on a successful supply chain for a number of

reasons. First and foremost, a well-functioning supply chain minimizes stockouts and
guarantees customer satisfaction by guaranteeing that the appropriate products are
accessible at the appropriate times and in the appropriate quantities. This is especially
crucial in the grocery business since customers have high expectations for product
availability and some products can have a short shelf life. Like perishable goods, they
need to be transported and stored properly to maintain their freshness. A well-managed
supply chain can also assist Walmart in controlling costs by lowering the costs
associated with maintaining inventory, shipping, and other operational expenditures.
Walmart can also adjust to shifting consumer preferences and market trends thanks to
an agile and flexible supply chain, which helps the company maintain its
competitiveness in a sector that is changing quickly. Also, its important that they
maintain an efficient supply chain because it can lower their carbon footprint by
optimizing transport routes and using less energy in warehouses. In the absence of a
successfully performing supply chain, Walmart's grocery business would find it difficult
to satisfy consumer demands, manage expenses, and effectively fight competitors.
2. How is Walmart using third-party supply chain partners in its grocery delivery
business?

Walmart's grocery delivery service makes use of outside supply chain partners in a
number of ways. First, in order to make last-mile grocery delivery to consumers'
doorsteps easier, Walmart is working with outside delivery firms like Skipcart,
Postmates, and DoorDash. Through these alliances, Walmart is able to reach a wider
audience and provide its customers more flexible delivery choices, such same-day
delivery. Also, by partnering with outside businesses to handle deliveries, Walmart is
able to cut expenses on things like driver compensation, insurance, and vehicle upkeep
that come with running a delivery fleet. Furthermore, Walmart is deepening its
business-to-business partnership with FedEx by employing the latter's standard and
express services to facilitate grocery delivery on the same day. Walmart is better able to
address the increased demand for quick and dependable delivery services thanks to our
relationship with FedEx. In addition, Walmart is experimenting with cutting-edge
technologies to increase delivery efficiency, like self-driving cars from the robotics
startup Nuro. Walmart wants to improve its supply chain, improve grocery delivery
operations, and provide consumers dependable and convenient delivery services. To
this end, it is working with third-party partners.
