NARRATIVE REPORT
SLAC 4: Teaching Strategies in Enhancing Learner
in Literacy and Numeracy Skills
October 16, 2024

Research enhances practices, enhance professional development, inform policy and


curriculum development, address classroom challenges, contribute the education community,
promote evidence-based practices, and foster a culture of inquiry are the reasons for teachers
to conduct research. In addition, there is a fund intended to support research initiatives in the
field of basic education used to finance research projects that aim to improve educational
practices, policies, and outcomes which is the Basic Education Research Fund (BERF)
according to DepEd Order No. 16, series of 2017.

In the School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) of Group 1 comprising of the TLE, ESP,
AP and Science teachers, which was conducted last October 16, 2024, at 4:00 to 5:45 p.m. at
the JHS Faculty Room, teachers were oriented on the Teaching Strategies in Enhancing
Learner

in Literacy and Numeracy Skills. It was led by Nick G. Collado, PhD, School
Principal I, facilitated by Evelyn B. Altiz, Head Teacher III, and Leah P. Vilog, Head Teacher
I who served as Resource Speaker in the said LAC Session.

The School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) of the group was started by a prayer led by
Mylence G. Cortez, Teacher III, and Kathleen Ashley V. Wagayen, Teacher III hosted the
session.

The resource speaker presented to the group the session objective of the SLAC’s topic
that aims (1) to provide clear guidelines and standards for conducting research, (2) to equip

teachers with the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct effective research, and (3) to
establish a research-driven culture among teachers of Sto. Tomas National High School.

She started the discussion on asking the question, “Why teachers


hesitate/avoid/unwilling to conduct research?” and followed by “Why should teachers
conduct research?”.

At the end of the session, the questions were raised and clarified.

Generally, the session was smoothly done and left additional learnings to the teachers.
