Experiment 1

Verify series/parallel connection, Ohm's law, KCL, KVL

Task 1: Verify series parallel connection and Ohm's law

Fig. 1
1. Simulation:
● Determine the circuit's equivalent resistance, which can be determined
through hand calculation. Fill out the value in the "Resistor value
(Simulation value)" column.
● Use PSpice software to wire and run simulations for the circuit diagram
in Fig. 1 with five voltage source cases: 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 V. Fill out
current values in the Simulation value cell.
2. Experiment:
● Wire the circuit follows Fig. 1 on the breadboard. The equivalent
resistance and current were then measured using a multimeter.
● Ohm's law must be used to find the current value in the Experiment
task. Please provide a calculation process to find the current value in
this case.
Note that: each answer in Table 1 must include the unit. The actual value range
deviating 5% from the simulation value is accepted.

Task 2: Verify Kirchhoff's Voltage Law (KVL)
Fig. 2

1. Simulation:
● Use PSpice software to wire and run simulations for the circuit diagram
in Fig. 2. Determine voltage values (VR1 to VR5) and fill them out in
the Simulation value cell.
2. Experiment:
● Wire the circuit follows Fig. 2 on the breadboard. Determine voltage
values (VR1 to VR5) and fill them out in the Actual value cell. Note
that the voltage measurements (VR1, VR3, VR4) can be taken directly.
The voltage measurements (VR2, VR5) must use Kirchhoff's Voltage
Law to determine the result. Please provide the calculation process for
(VR2 and VR5).
Note that: each answer in Table 2 must include the unit. The actual value range
deviating 5% from the simulation value is accepted.

Task 3: Verify Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL)

Fig. 3
1. Simulation:
● Use PSpice software to wire and run simulations for the circuit diagram
in Fig. 3. Determine current values (I1 to I6) and fill them out in the
Simulation value cell.
2. Experiment:
● Wire the circuit follows Fig. 3 on the breadboard. Determine current
values (I1 to I6) and fill them out in the Actual value cell. Note that the
current measurements (I1 to I6) can be taken directly a maximum of
four times. Please provide the calculation process to determine the
current values in cases where direct measurements are not possible.
Note that: each answer in Table 3 must include the unit. The actual value range
deviating 5% from the simulation value is accepted.

Task 1:
(1) Pspice circuit drawing (one representative is enough), and the picture
description must be marked
(2) Calculation process (if any)

By the formula: V=IR, we can know that the voltage is proportional to current(𝑉
∝ 𝐼), and I=V/R.

Take experimental data as an example: In 1V’s simulation value, the resister value

is 192.1ohm through our calculations, by I=V/R, the current is equal to 5.205mA;
In 3V’s simulation value, the resister value is 192.1ohm, by I=V/R, the current is
equal to 15.62mA.
Our actual value is also close to the simulation value.

Task 2:
(1) Pspice circuit drawing, the picture description must be marked
(2) Calculation process (if any)

We can know the value of VR2 and VR5 by the principle of KVL:

VR2’s value:
By KVL, VR1-VR2-VR3+VR4=0, VR2=VR1-VR3+VR4, and put the value into
the equation.
Simulation value: VR1=2.77V, VR3=-1.065V, VR4=-4.469V, we can get VR2’s
value is -0.634V.
Actual value: VR1=2.76V, VR3=-1.06V, VR4=-4.46V, we can get VR2’s value is -
0.64V, is close to the simulation value.

VR5’s value:
By KVL, -4-2+VR5-VR4=0, VR5=6+VR4, and put the value into the equation.
Simulation value: VR4=-4.469V, we can get VR5’s value is 1.531V.
Actual value: VR4=-4.46V, we can get VR5’s value is 1.54V, is close to the
simulation value.
