EMT1255 – ELECTRONICS LECTURE

EXAM 02

LastName: …………………………………………… FirstName: …………………………………

Description:
There are five (5) questions.
Answer all questions.
Write and sketch clearly.
Instruction:
The quiz takes 60 minutes (1 hour), and each question has equal weight in grade.
Show your work/ calculation clearly and be creative when solving the questions.

Ques on 01:
Determine the terminal voltages of each transistor with respect to ground for each circuit in
Figure A. Also, determine VCE, VBE, and VBC. βDC = 50. IB =VBB-VBE / RB
IE = IC + IB
VE = VB -VBE VC = VCC -(IC x
IE = VE / RE RC)
IC = IE
VCE = 1.4 V
VBE = 0.7 V VCE = VC- VE = 8.9V
VBC = -0.7 V VBE = VB - VE = 4.0V
VBC = VB - VC = -4.9 V

Figure A.
Ques on 02:
Determine each of the dc voltages, VB, VC, and VE, with respect to ground in Figure B.
(R2 /R1 +R2)Vcc = 4.7k ohm /22k ohm+4.7k ohm = 2.64V
VE = VB - VBE |||| VB - 0.7 = 1.94V
VC = VCC -IcRc ||| IE = VE / RE = 10.02V

Figure B.

Ques on 03:
a) Draw the schematic symbols for n-channel and p-channel D-MOSFETs and E-MOSFETs,
and label the terminals.
b) Explain why both types of MOSFETs have an extremely high input resistance at the gate.
Both types of MOSFETs, n-channel and p-channel, exhibit high input resistance at the gate
because the gate is isolated from the rest of the MOSFET structure by a thin layer of insulating material,
usually silicon dioxide
Ques on 04:
Determine the following dc values for the amplifier in Figure C.
(R2 /R1 +R2)Vcc = (12k / 47k+12k) 18 = 3.66V
VE = VB - VBE |||| VB - 0.7 = 2.96V
VC = VCC -IcRc = 8.23 V

Figure C.
Ques on 05:
For each circuit in Figure D, determine V DS and VGS.
