Function:
The muscular system is a complex network of muscles vital to the
human body. Muscles play a part in everything you do. They control your
heartbeat and breathing, help digestion, and allow movement. Muscles
work by either contracting or relaxing to cause movement. This
movement may be voluntary (meaning the movement is made
consciously) or done without our conscious awareness (involuntary).
Function:
The nervous system transmits signals between the brain and the rest of
the body, including internal organs. In this way, the nervous system’s
activity controls the ability to move, breathe, see, think, and more.
Function:
The endocrine system regulates how much of each hormone is released.
Endocrine glands release hormones into the bloodstream. This lets the
hormones help control mood, growth and development, the way our
organs work, metabolism, and reproduction.
Function:
The lymphatic system is part of the immune system. It keeps the body
fluid levels in balance and defends the body against infections. Lymphatic
vessels, tissues, organs, and glands work together to drain a watery fluid
called lymph from throughout the body.
Function:
The respiratory system is the organs and structures in your body that
allow you to breathe. It includes lungs, nose, mouth and the tubelike
structures (airways) that connect them. You also have muscle and blood
vessels that support your respiratory system, and ribs to protect it. These
parts works together to bring oxygen into your body when you inhale and
get rid of carbon dioxide when you exhale.
Function:
The circulatory system is made up of blood vessels that carry blood
away from and towards the heart. Arteries carry blood away from the
heart and veins carry blood back to the heart. The circulatory system
carries oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to cells, and removes waste
products, like carbon dioxide.
Function:
The digestive system digest and absorbs food and then excrete the
waste products. It is uniquely constructed to do its jobs of turning foods
into nutrients and energy you need to survive. When it’s done with that, it
handily packages your solid waste, or stool, for disposal when you have a
bowel movement.
Function:
The male reproductive system produces androgens such as
testosterone that maintain male reproductive functio and is responsible
for sexual function and urination.
Function:
The female reproductive system is a group of organs that work
together to enable reproduction, pregnancy, and childbirth. It also
produces female sex hormones, including estrogen and progesterone.
Function:
The urinary system maintains the volume and composition of body
fluids within normal limits. It keeps everything in balance by removing
waste, like urea, extra salt, extra water and other things the body does
not need.
Function:
The integumentary system is your body’s outer layer. It consists of
skin, hair, nails, and glands. These organs and structures are your first line
of defense agains bacteria, infection, injury, and sunlight. It also helps
regulate your body temperature and allows you to feel skin sensations like
hot and cold.
