COURSE AUTHORS
Dr. Charles G. “Greg” Lutz is a Professor and Extension Specialist at Louisiana State University
Agricultural Center and the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program. With over 40 years in aquaculture
research, extension, and teaching, he has worked in 24 countries and gained expertise in various
aquatic species. Dr. Lutz holds a Ph.D. from LSU and has experience in both academia and the private
sector, including managing a 500-hectare catfish farm. He authored numerous publications, including
14 book chapters, 22 refereed journal articles, and a book on aquaculture genetics. Currently, he serves
as Editor-in-Chief of the World Aquaculture Society's magazine and writes a column for The Fish Site.
Dr. Flavia M. Damasceno (Formulation Specialist) is an animal Nutritionist with 13 years of experience
in aquaculture nutrition, feed formulation, aquaculture management, data analysis, and mathematical
modeling, acquired as a graduate student and aquaculture nutritionist at Wittaya Aqua. Her experience
also includes economical valuation of feed ingredients, nutritive value and limitations of common and
novel animal feed ingredients, and determination of nutrient requirements of different species. Dr.
Damasceno is fluent in Portuguese and has intermediate skills in Spanish. Dr. Damasceno has been the
liaison for successful planning and administration of the USSEC Feed Specialist and IAFFD contracts.
Dr. Harsha Galkanda-Arachchige is an aquaculture nutritionist, shrimp aquaculture and water quality
expert. He also has academic credentials in data and statistical analysis. He holds an MSc and PhD
from Auburn University. He has worked with global leaders in aquaculture, including Allen Davis, Luke
Roy, and Claude Boyd. He has carried out research trials on the nutritive value of soybean meals and
other protein sources. He carried out large scale projects on the management of water quality in shrimp
culture in the U.S. and in Sri Lanka. Harsha is fluent in Sinhalese.
Dr. Kevin Fitzsimmons is a Professor and Aquaculture Extension Specialist at the University of Arizona,
with joint appointments in the School of Natural Resources and the Department of Biological
Engineering. He has over four decades of experience in environmental science, aquaculture, and
international development, particularly in tilapia farming. Dr. Fitzsimmons has worked extensively on
improving aquaculture sustainability worldwide, securing grants from USAID and USDA. He has served
as an advisor to the Chinese government and led aquaculture projects across Africa, Asia, and the
Americas. Notably, he has received two Fulbright Fellowships and currently co-leads the Niger
Resilience and Agribusiness Master’s Program. Additionally, he serves on the Scientific Advisory Board
for the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program and is a past President of the World
Aquaculture Society.
Marcela Moreno M.Sc. (Feed Technology) holds a BSc and MSc in Animal Sciences from the National
University of Colombia. Marcela has research experience in aquaculture nutrition, poultry and swine
nutrition, feed manufacturing, feed ingredient quality control, and field data compilation and analysis.
She worked as a professor and technical coordinator at the National University of Colombia and a
technical specialist for one of the largest animal feed manufacturers in Colombia. Marcela is
responsible for the feed ingredient price updates of the company’s proprietary database and for
formulating feeds for various projects. She is an expert in running simulations with the tools developed
by Wittaya Aqua.

Stephen Gunther is an entrepreneur / business owner with almost 20 years working and consulting for
the animal nutrition and aquaculture industries. He has worked as a technical sales director in the feed
premix industry in Chile and for one of the leading aquafeed manufacturing companies. Stephen has a
post- graduate degree in Animal Nutrition and throughout his career has gained experience in:
development and optimisation of nutritional strategies in production animals, management of premix
plants, management of quality control systems, leading scientific investigations at academic and
industrial scale, statistical analysis, publications in peer-reviewed journals, and presentations at
international congresses and for industry stakeholders, direction of multidisciplinary work teams,
development of technical procedures, negotiation with suppliers, and administration of budgets.
Stephen has delivered on-site technical visits, IAFFD Feed Formulation Workshops, and presented for
USSEC in English and Spanish.

Mr. Anoop K Tandon is a seasoned aquaculture expert with over 32 years of experience in managing
technical and field operations in various aspects of aquaculture, including fish culture, hatchery
management, nursery, and grow-out in both earthen ponds and tanks. His expertise spans species such as
Tilapia, Pangasius, Seabass, Carps, and multiple shrimp species including L. vannamei and P. indicus. His
experience extends to training, operations, projects, and administrative roles across India and abroad.
Mr. Tandon has significantly contributed to managing projects across India, Madagascar, and several
Middle Eastern countries, focusing on climate-resilient farming, better management practices, and
surviving extreme weather conditions. He has served as a consultant and technical trainer for government
bodies, including the National Fisheries Development Board and the Department of Fisheries in India.
Renowned for his expertise in management, strategic planning, and crisis resolution, Mr. Tandon has a
strong background in fisheries and aquaculture management, process reengineering, and resource
optimization. A disciplined and results-driven leader, he is skilled at bridging the gap between
stakeholders, ensuring the successful execution of projects, and delivering results under pressure.
He is currently engaged as a Resident Consultant cum Project Coordinator for the WorldFish - APART
Project in Assam, India. Mr. Tandon holds a Master's degree in Fisheries Science with a focus on Fish
Production and Management from the University of Agricultural Sciences, India.
