I. EXPERIMENT RESULTS AND DATA TREATMENT
1. Resistance measurement
Trial f ( Hz ) Rx = R0 ( Ω )
1 1000 2170
2 2000 2200
3 3000 2161

3
1
R = ∑ R i = 2177 (Ω)
3 i=1

√ s .d
3
s. d = ∑ ¿ ¿ ¿ ¿ => ΔR ≈ S. D ≈ √3 ≈ 1(Ω)
i=1

Hence:
Rx = R ± ∆R = 2177 ± 1 (Ω)

2. Capacitance measurement
Trial f(Hz) ZC = R0(Ω) 1
Cx = 2 πf R (F)
0

1 1000 270 5.895 × 10-7

2 2000 135 5.895 × 10-7
3 3000 90 5.895 × 10-7
3
1
C = ∑ C i = 5.895 ×10-7 (F)
3 i=1

√ s .d
3
s. d = ∑ ¿ ¿ ¿ ¿ => ΔC ≈ S. D ≈ √3 ≈ 0.001× 10-7 (F)
i=1

Hence:
Cx = C ± ΔC = (5.895 ± 0.001) × 10-7(F)

3. Inductance measurement
Trial f(Hz) ZL = R0(Ω) R0
Lx = (H)
2 πf
1 5000 1171 3.727 × 10-2
2 7000 1663 3.781 ×10-2
3 10000 2500 3.979 × 10-2
3
1
L= ∑ Li = 3.829 × 10-2 (H)
3 i=1

3
s .d
s. d = ∑ ¿ ¿ ¿ ¿ => ΔL ≈ S. D ≈ √3 ≈ 0.04× 10-2 (F)
i=1

Hence:
Lx = L ± ΔL = (3.83 ± 0.04) × 10-2(H)

4. Determination of resonance frequency

Trial Parallel RLC Series RLC
1 3427 3426
2 3380 3387
3 3400 3405
25+22
a. Parallel RLC circuit
3
1
f parallel = ∑ f i = 3402.6 (Hz)
3 i=1

√ s .d
3
s. d = ∑ ¿ ¿ ¿ ¿ => Δf ≈ S. D ≈ √3 ≈ 11.1 (Hz)
i=1
Hence:
fparallel = f parallel ± Δfparallel = 3402.6 ± 11.1 (Hz)

b. Series RLC circuit

3
1
f series = ∑ f i = 3406 (Hz)
3 i=1

√ s .d
3
s. d = ∑ ¿ ¿ ¿ ¿ => Δf ≈ S. D ≈ √3 ≈ 9 (Hz)
i=1

Hence:
fseries = f series ± Δfseries = 3406 ± 9 (Hz)

c. Theoretical Result And Comparison

1
f=
2 π √ LC

With L=3.829 × 10 ( H )∧C=5.895 ×10 (F ), we have:

−2 −7

1
f Theoretical= =1059( Hz)
2 π √ 3.829× 10 ×5.895 ×10−7
−2

d. Theoretical result
- Theoretically, we can calculate the resonace frequency of RLC circuit
1
by the formula f0 =
2 π √ LC
- With C = 3.829 ×10-2 F and L = 5.896 × 10-7 H we get ftheoretical = 1059
(Hz)
- The theoretical result of resonant frequency is approximately equal to
the directly measured results, but the circuit is overdamped because the
resistance R is significantly greater than the critical resistance needed
for the circuit to oscillate, leading to a rapid return to equilibrium
without oscillations and will not exhibit sustained oscillations. It will
not approximate the behavior of an ideal LC circuit, and thus the initial
assumption or expectation of behavior might be considered misleading
with this configuration.
