Microprocessor-controlled devices in the home
▸ What is a microprocessor?
▸ A microprocessor is a tiny CPU ,, which built onto a single chip
▸ it is not as powerful as CPU in larger computer system (PC).
▸ A single chip contains:
▸ a CPU
▸ some ROM (used for storing the devices software)
▸ some RAM
▸ Microprocessors are put into electronic devices to control their
functions

Disadvantage of Microprocessor in Transportation

▸ System Update: Traffic light/speed camera : The program inside the device need to
update for new rules/new location

▸ Road features update: GPS system is not smart enough to know the changing in the
features of the road , Ex: new road available, bumps, congestion and current accident.

▸ Data collection fears: The citizens feel that they are continually watched, monitored
and filmed in the road , Ex: camera-based system such as speed camera, ANPR and
more.

Effect of IT on Health
❑ Repetitive strain Injury RSI: damage to fingers and wrists caused by continuous use of a keyboard
or repetitive clicking of mouse buttons
❑ Prevention (take regular break)
❑ ensure correct posture of arm ⌂ make use of ergonomic keyboards

❑ Back and neck problem : sitting in front of computer screen for long period in the same position

❑ Use adjustable chair to give correct posture ⌂Ensure the monitor is at eye level

❑ Eyestrain and headache


❑ Caused: staring at a computer screen for too long or having bad
lighting in the room
❑ Prevention (take regular break)
❑ ensure that there is no screen flicker (CRT) / LCD
❑ use of anti-glare filter screens to reduce the screen reflection
