PROJECT 1: SKILLS GAP ANALYSIS REFLECTION SUMMARY 2

Skills Gap Analysis Reflection Summary

One of the first assignments of the MBA 610 class was to fill out a skills gap analysis

consisted of four parts, which assessed individual skills as they pertain to each of the four course

projects and helped me in identifying the skill areas I wanted to enhance. As we reached the end

of the class we now, we can draw a comparison and see the progress and development as a result

of the work invested into the four course projects.

In my preliminary submission of the analysis, I discovered a few gaps in my skills set

related to personal leadership assessment, goal-setting, and implementation. Once I completed

the Clifton Strengths assessment, I gained a better understanding of how to use my strengths

towards successful achievement of my goals. Additionally, I learned what sets of skills I need to

improve in order to establish myself as a good leader. I also learned how to set a long-term goal

by implementing SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound) goals

model to be able to achieve it.

The initial skills gap analysis and Project 2 assignment revealed several other areas that I

need to work on, such as organization culture, climate, and ethical decisions and situational

audit. I knew our company’s values as they are advertised and promoted during the

organization’s all hands meetings, when our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) presents a speech or

just throughout the intranet. I also knew that ethical integrity is major in my company as well as

we annual mandatory training on it and a representative from Ethics and Compliance department

goes into the details of it during the onboarding session. However, I never really paid much

attention or spent so much time researching and figuring out what is our environment, goals,

mission, culture, and/or ethics in our company. My partner was very excited to hear about my

research as this knowledge helps a lot when it comes to expanding the business when it comes to

the business development process. Being a consulting company, Guidehouse spends a lot of

time advertising itself to potential clients and it helps to have people on the team who already

know so many details about the brand. As a result, this exercise helped me to minimize the gap

of identifying the organization's mission, vision, values, and core goals to people who are new to

Guidehouse, but also showed my management that I was invested in the company for my future

growth. I believe it helped me to strengthen my relationships with leadership and I now can

easily our company’s strategy and mission to others.

Finally, one of the challenges we all have been faced with in the past two year was

working in virtual teams. The whole world had to adjust to a remote work, getting used to attend

and lead virtual meetings as well as meeting their team for the very first time via camera. I am

not a stranger to the virtual environment and this course helped me to realize how building and

maintaining virtual teams can have a huge impact on the project’s productivity and final result. I

learned how important the lines of communication are to the successful and healthy work

environment. In my first review of skills gap analysis, I identified that I did not have a good

grasp on how decisions were made within teams. However, while completing Project 4, I

learned many nuances of group projects that virtual teams must pay a special attention to. For

example, while making a decision within the group it is important to do the brainstorming, keep

a clear line of communication, practice dialectical inquiry, Delphi technique and be transparent

(Gale,2009). All four of these techniques are focusing on getting the best results by

collaborative work among each member of the virtual team.

The skills gap analysis and final review helped me to narrow down the gaps that I have to

work on for my professional development. The skills gap table, developmental activities,

target and actual completion dates, resources and costs outlined within the table served me as

an action plan to achieve each of the four skills gap goals.
