Answer ALL questions

1) Discuss the classification of materials based on structure, size and phase (6)

2) Using a Cubic crystalline structure, answer the following questions:

4) Describe the different methods of materials characterization, with a focus on 3

6) Using a diagram, explain why the energy structure of a semiconductor can be altered
by substituting one type of atom with another.
7) By presenting your answer in tabular form, discuss the similarities and differences
between the following: Graphene, graphite, graphitic carbon nitride and graphene
oxide (8)
8) Discuss the different types of heterojunction systems in semiconductor materials (8)
9) Calculate the maximum radius of a sphere that may be accommodated in an
octahedral hole in a close packed solid composed of spheres of radius r.
