Note Slip Stitches
Slip all slip stitches purlwise with yarn in front.

Pattern Cast on 84 stitches. We used a basic Long Tail Cast On.

Place marker and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
Purl 4 rounds.
Knit every round until piece measures approximately 25 inches from cast-on edge.

NOTE Create Loop

You will now work back and forth in rows,
knitting one side of the Loop at a time. FRONT
Working with the first 42 stitches only (and leaving the remaining 42 stitches on hold on the
needles for Back) . . .
Row 1 (right side): K1, slip 1 (see Note), k36, slip 1, k1, turn work.
Row 2 (wrong side): Slip 1, k1, slip 1, purl to last 3 stitches, slip 1, k1, slip 1, turn work.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until Front measures 8 inches, ending with Row 1.
Cut yarn, and place stitches onto stitch holder or scrap yarn.

BACK
With remaining 42 stitches on needles, join yarn ready to work a right-side row.
Work as for Front, but leave stitches on needles and do not cut yarn.

JOIN FRONT + BACK

Turn work inside out and slip on-hold Front stitches onto opposite end of needles. Hold needles
parallel so half of the stitches are on either end and working yarn is at needle tips.
With spare needle, bind off all stitches using a 3-Needle Bind Off.

Finishing
Weave in all ends, turn right side out, and gently wet block!

NOTE KNITTING IN TAILS

For help with this technique, please visit
To spare yourself weaving in dozens and dozens of tails, we recommend knitting them in every time

(k1b) stitches. To keep this rhythm, begin knitting in ends on the third knit stitch of Row 1, or the
second knit stitch of Row 3, then every other stitch after that. Here’s how . . .
To knit in tails, *hold the tails of the new and old color together, bring them over the working yarn
at the wrong side of the work, and knit next stitch; then, drop tails and knit next stitch as normal.
Continue knitting in tails every other stitch for approximately 1 inch.

STITCH PATTERN (FOR GAUGE SWATCH)

Row 1 (right side): K3, *p1, k1b (see above), repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k1, slip 1 (see above), k1.

Row 3: K3, *k1b, p1, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k1, slip 1, k1.

end of the pattern.
Grab four vessels (we used paper bags). Put the following colors into two bags (if you’ve lost any
labels, you can refer to the Color Guide included with your bundle) . . .
Bag Of Warm Colors
Magnolia Blossom, Red Poppy, Bright Flamingo, Chestnut Red, Super Orange, Golden Wheat,
Buttercup Yellow, Raw Sienna, Peony Pink, Peachy Pink, Fresh Nutmeg, Butterscotch Yellow,
Turmeric Yellow, Kiln Red, Pink Pop, Lychee Pink, Baked Earth, Golden Green, Crocus Bud, and
Purple Clematis
Bag Of Cool Colors
Clover Green, Fresh Pickle, Pale Mushroom, Lavender Opal, Pale Oats, Cobalt Blue, Reed Gray,
Blue Blue, Kettle Black, Eggshell Blue, Pale Celery, Wheat Flour, Stillwater Blue, Stonewall Gray,
Grasshopper Green, True Turquoise, Pine Cone, Blue Pansy, Bird’s Egg Blue, and Lemon Lime
Now, close your eyes and select one color from each bag to create a pairing. If they aren’t high
enough contrast or they’re too similar to the colors you just knit, just put them back and pick again.
Use this pair to work Rows 1–4 of the pattern, then set these colors aside, putting the warm one in
a second bag for warm colors and the cool one in a second bag for cool colors. Continue to pick
and knit pairs until you have used all 40 colors once and your original bags are empty. Now use
your full bags of warm and cool colors to do it all again! Repeat the process 6 more times (7 total)
to complete your blanket. Nothing could be more fun!

CARRYING UP YARN
For tips on carrying up the non-working yarn while working stripes in the round, please visit our
Stripes In The Round Tutorial and scroll down to the Carrying Up The Yarn video. (Note that we do
not recommend working Jogless Stripes for this pattern, which is also featured in our Stripes In the
Round tutorial. This is because jogless stripes shift the end of the round, which needs to stay
stationary for this pattern.)

Notes Construction
Note that, for this blanket, you cast on the “long way,” which means the measurement from cast-on
edge to bind-off edge will be shorter than the overall width of the blanket.

SLIP STITCHES
Slip all stitches knitwise with yarn in back

COLOR ORDER
Random Method
We knit our blankets using the “organized chaos” method. To do the same, first decide which
bundle will be Color A and which will be Color B. Then . . .
Grab four vessels (we used paper bags). Wind the entirety of your Color A bundle and place it into
one bag, then do the same for the Color B bundle. When the pattern indicates to work Color A,
close your eyes and select one color from the Color A bag, knit your stripe using this ball, then place
the ball into a second bag for Color A. Follow the same logic for Color B stripes, closing your eyes
and selecting a color from the Color B bag, knitting your stripe with it, then placing it into a second
Color B bag. Repeat until all of the balls are transferred to the second set of bags, and your original
bags are empty, then repeat the process one more time. Enjoy the surprise of what comes next!
Or Replicate Our Blankets
If you’d rather make your Shimmering Stripe Blanket just like one of ours, it’s important to keep
your Color A and Color B bundles very organized! We recommend opening each bundle at the
darkest side and labeling each skein as you wind it, as follows: the darkest color from each bundle
is number 1, the next lightest color is number 2, the next lightest color is number 3, and so on to the
lightest color, number 9. Then, simply follow along with our Color Orders at the end of the pattern!

With Color A (see Color Order, above), cast on 200 stitches. We used a basic Long-Tail Cast On.

row to indicate the right side of the piece.
Cut yarn.
Continuing with the same logic and alternating Color A balls and Color B balls, repeat from * until one

With Color B, repeat Row 1 nine times.

Finishing
With wrong side facing you, loosely bind off knitwise.
Weave in all ends and gently wet block.
