STRUCTURAL DESIGN REPORT STORAGE ACCN

1.0INTRODUCTION

This report outlines the concept approach of the structural design carried out with the
basic parameters adopted and design assumptions considered towards the structural analysis catering
the functional and structural requirements compatible with the architectural requirements of the
building.
Scope of work:
The broad scope of works is as under:
 Design basis report
 Structural drawings
Site Location.
The proposed project site is located at Suryalanka

2.0Objective of the work:

(a) The design and engineering has been carried out with an uncompromised safety, stability,
strength, serviceability, and durability of the structures meet all Codal provisions,
economical, and supports easy / comfort living.
Consequently, the following activities have been completed in line with the above
 Structural analysis of Superstructure in STAAD and with detailed design
calculations in RCDC
 Reactions from the STAAD are taken and sub structure has been designed in excel
sheets.
 Detailed structural plans / drawings for the foundation and superstructures.

3.0 Geotechnical Data

Sub-structure:
IsolatedFoundation is proposed as per the feasibility study and geotechnical investigation
based on actual depth of founding strata, met at project site/pocket location. Construction of
substructure shall be in conventional cast-in-situ reinforced cement concrete since the depth would
vary as per actual site conditions. Reinforced cement concrete proposed for structural elements in sub
structure is of minimum M35 Grade.
Design Basis Report Desire 2 Design Engineers
Super-structure:
1. Very severe Exposure condition is considered for superstructure as per tender document.
2. Reinforced cement concrete used for RCC structural elements is of minimum M35 Grade as per
durability conditions stipulated in IS: 456-2000.

4.0 General design criteria

The superstructure is modeled using standard software “STAAD.Pro” as a space frame with a
grid of columns in the vertical direction, interconnected with beam members in the orthogonal
directions at each floor level. The nodes (the meeting points of beams with beams and beams with
columns) will be treated as rigid joints due to monolithic construction. The end nodes at the bottom
in the model will be fixed supports due to rigid connection of the columns with footings.
Design of Structural members
The member forces and support reactions as arrived through the analysis are utilized in the
design of structural members as per IS 456: 2000& IS 13920: 2016. All designs will be carried out
using the limit state method of design.
As per this method, the structure will be designed for all possible limit states of collapse and
serviceability.
Footings: Footings are designed for support reactions of all un-factored loads for corresponding
partial factors of safety for fixed condition.
Columns: Design results from STAAD design modules for fixed supports at foundation level for the
severest case among the inactions. Columns are grouped according to size and sub-grouped
according to area of steel.
Beams: Design results from STAAD design modules for the severest case among the inactions.
Beams are grouped according to span, cross section and support conditions.
Slabs: Slabs are designed as One-way/Two-way as per the coefficients given in IS-456: 2000.
Materials specifications
Concrete Grade: M35
Reinforcement Steel: Steel reinforcement shall be High Strength Deformed Bars of grade Fe-500D of
TMT Type conforming to IS: 1786-2008
Nominal cover to reinforcement:
1. Foundations : 50 mm
2. Columns : 40 mm
3. Beams : 40 mm
4. Slabs : 35 mm
Design Basis Report Desire 2 Design Engineers
4.1. Design Loads and combinations:

The structure is designed for the forces and moments resulted under the effect of intended
design loads. In the structural design, dead, imposed and wind loads and forces such as those
caused by earthquake, as per the relevant Indian Standards.
The structural members will be analysed and designed taking into consideration the
probability of various service loads acting together during the construction stage and after
occupation. As per Clause 18.2.1 of IS 456: 2000, the limit state method of design will be followed
for the design of all the structural members, as per this method, the design loads will be arrived at
using partial safety factors for various inactions as per Table 18 to IS 456: 2000.

4.2 Design Load Calculations:

Dead Load Calculations:-

Density of Brick wall - 20 kN/m3
Density of Plaster - 21 kN/m3
Floor Finish - 1.5kN/m2
Load Calculation for Wall:
Brick wall Calculation
External wall 230 mm thick
0.20 X (3.35-0.45) X 20 + 0.04 X (3.35-0.45) X 21= 14.03 ~ 14.1 kN/m.

External wall 230 mm thick, up to lintel level

0.23 X (2.1) X 18 + 0.04 X (2.1) X 21) = 10.45~ 10.5 kN/m.

External wall 230 mm thick, above lintel level

0.23 X(3.35-2.1-0.3-0.45) X 18 + 0.04 X (3.35-2.1-0.3-0.45) X 21 = 2.49 ~ 2.5kN/m.

Slab Load
0.125 X 25 + 1.5 (Floor Finish)= 4.625 kN/m2
600 mm Wide Chajja Load
SLAB LOAD 0.125 X 25 X 0.6 = 1.87 kN/m
900 mm Wide Chajja Load
SLAB LOAD 0.125 X 25 X 0.9 = 2.81 kN/m
Live Load Calculations:-
Inaccessible Terrace =0.75 kN/m

5.0 ANALYSIS AND DESIGN.
The structural analysisfor the sub-structure and super structure of the Storage AccnBuilding and
the design and detailing of the structure has been carried out as per the following considerations: -

(a) Static Method is used for the seismic analysis to have the seismic effect for entire building.

(b) Based on the Seismic analysis and Wind analysis for higher value of load combinations,
the design and detailing are carried out for the structural elements like Footing, Plinth
Beams, Floor Beams, Roof Beam, Roof slab.

(c) Isolated footing design is carried as per IS Code 456:2000.

(d) All the Footings are analysed in RCDC for the critical load combination obtained from
STAAD.

(e) Superstructures are analysed in the STAAD Pro and later detailed in RCDC. The Plinth
beam, Roof beam of reinforcements are designed and detailed in RCDC as per IS Code
456:2000 & IS 13920:2016.

(f) One-way slab and Two-way slab have been designed and analysed in STAAD and later
detailed in RCDC as per IS 456:2000 and SP34.
