1- An axial flow pump operates at 500 rpm. The outer diameter of the
impeller is 750 mm and the hub diameter is 400 mm. At the mean blade
radius the inlet blade angle is and the outlet blade angle is both
measured with respect to the plan of the impeller rotation, Sketch the
corresponding velocity diagrams at the inlet and outlet and estimate from
them:
a- The head generated by the pump.
b- The rate of flow through the pump.
c- The shaft power consumed by the pump, assuming the hydraulic
efficiency of 87% and overall efficiency of 70%.
[Answer: 4.12m, 1.01 , 58.8KW]
2- An axial flow fan has a hub of 1.5m and a tip diameter 2m. If rotates at 18
rad/s when handling 5 of air develops a theoretical head equivalent
to 17mm water. Determine the blade outlet and inlet angles at the hub
and tip. Assuming that the velocity of the flow is independent of radius
and that the energy transfer per unit length of the blade is constant.
Take =1.2 kg/ and =1000 kg/
[Answer: =15.08, =11.43, =48.52, =19.48]
3- The inner and outer diameter of an axial fan is 0.75 and 1.8m respectively.
Find stator blades lay down stream of the rotor with an inlet angle (at
mean radius) . The rotor blade outlet angle (at mean radius) also is . The
rotor rotates at speed of 250 rpm, If the whirl velocity upstream from the
rotor is zero at all radii, Determine:
a- The axial velocity if the flow onto the stator blades occurs at zero
incidences.
b- The rotor torque if the axial velocity is constant across the flow annulus.
c- The hub and tip rotor blade angle for zero incidences, zero inlet whirl.

=16.94]
