CAS Interview #1

Understanding
1. Do you have any questions or concerns about CAS?
- Regarding the number of CAS experiences I have, how many
reflections are suitable to have for each experience? Also, all of my
CAS experiences have been approved with a blue thumbs up. How
do I change that for it to become fully approved with a green tick?
Lastly, is it fine to have more than one CAS Project because I have a
few things in mind which could mean me having multiple CAS
projects.
2. What do you most hope to achieve from CAS?
- I hope to achieve a lot of things for the creativity, activity and
service part of our IBDP program. This core component encourages
me to go out and do many things outside of school which will be
very impactful to grow me as a human being. For the activity part, I
am consistently going to the gym, as well as playing tennis at least
twice a week and badminton once a week. These activities are
immensely helpful for my physical and mental well-being, as well as
being notable things I can mention on the extra-curricular lists of my
portfolio. For creativity, I have already enrolled in a few
competitions and have really learnt to manage my time well, and if I
win some competitions I can really skill up my personal statement
for university. Service is an integral part of growing me as a person,
helping others is a key spiritual aim for me and I love how it’s
incorporated into a core component which further incentivises me to
do it, on a regular basis.

Student interests
1. What are your main interests? How can you incorporate these
interests into your CAS programme?
- For the activity part, I love playing tennis and going to the gym,

and I love how it’s incorporated into a core component which further
incentivises me to do it, on a regular basis. A few service actions I
have is doing unpaid internships. I have two internships at Al-
Futtaim in the Tax and Procurement department, where I helped get
a lot of work done, as well as gained a whole lot of experience for
myself.

2. What are your personal goals? How could they be achieved

through CAS?
- For activity, my main goal is to get in great physical shape. I wanna
gain some muscle and get rid of some belly fat. The gym is the best
place to gain some muscle, I have already added this to CAS and go
5x a week consistently. I also play tennis twice a week which is a
great cardio, that can help strengthen my arms and lose good
amount of fat. Another main goal of mine is to have a very strong
personal statement. The creativity aspect of CAS is perfect for that. I
have enrolled in a few major competitions and if I win them, I can
mention them in my personal statement and really improve my
chances of getting into a good university, some competitions I have
done are the NASA Mars Rover Challenge, Oxford Essay, Sydney
Innovation Challenge and Diginventors. Furthermore, from a service
point of view. I really enjoy helping people in any way. A spiritual
aim of mine is to make peoples life easier by volunteering in any
way I can. For CAS, I have already volunteered for many teachers
for doing any sort of work: like sticking up projects on their
classroom boards etc…

Student plans for CAS

1. What would you enjoy doing for creativity? Activity? Service?
- For activity, I am currently enjoying going to the gym 5x a week
consistently. Also, I play tennis twice a week as well as badminton. I
enjoy playing any type of sport. In terms of creativity, I enjoy
partaking in competitions as they help me manage my time and
also improve my presentation skills. Things like the NASA Mars
rover, Oxford Essay, Diginventors and the Sydney innovation
challenge are all vital projects for creativity. For service, I have done
two unpaid internships at Al-Futtaim, volunteered to help a lot of
teachers, done a psychology experiment for the IAs of IB2s and
many more.
2. Who will you work with for your CAS project?

Ishaq and Asad, the NASA Mars rover project with 19 other people in
IB1 and IB2.

CAS Learning outcomes

1. What learning outcome appears as something you will easily do
- In my opinion, the easiest learning outcome out of the 7 is
collaboration. Many of my cas experiences involve collaborating
with people in order to complete an activity. Therefore, almost
every one of my CAS experience involves collaboration as a learning
outcome. All competitions I do are collaborative as I work in a team,
as well as sports like tennis and badminton which involve a
teammate and an opponent.
2. What learning outcome might present a significant challenge?
- I’d say the hardest learning outcome to achieve is the global
engagement one. As high-schoolers, not many of our activities
relate to any significant world problems. Hence, it’s hard for me to
fill those out. However, our idea of the Air Water Generator for the
Sydney Innovation Challenge explores a real-life problem and can
proof to be amazing for the world as a whole. Furthermore, the
NASA Mars rover also does tick that box. But as a whole, for me the
global engagement learning outcome is the toughest.

Evidence of CAS
1. How will you reflect on your CAS experiences? Are there any
preferred ways you like to reflect? (Note: The student may
require suggestions or examples to develop a more diverse
approach to reflection.)
- I mostly give my reflections and evidences through pictures. In my
opinion, it’s the easiest way to provide evidence and it’s the most
accurate and reliable too. If there is a picture, it’s for certain that
someone has completed the activity and are not lying. Hence, it’s
the best way to do so as well. For certain projects though, I have put
up links of YouTube videos (for the AWG) and certain links for
websites. I also use the description section to state my progress and
how I am getting along with the experience.
