Basic machine unit, excl. ejector
A housing to mount over existing conveyor.
PC, electrical cabinet, monitor etc. included.
1 camera included – to be mounted at side, front, back or top.
No possibility for check of label from bottom.
No ejector included – only the ejection signal is included

Extra internal camera incl. light & cables

Extra cameras can be mounted inside the housing – typically for
inspecting more sides of the product.

Satellite camera incl. light, 1 item

A standard (area scan) camera mounted away from the machine
typically at a printer. Can perform various forms of inspections like OCR.
The input from the satellite camera is fully integrated into the GUI of the
main program. Notice that the product passing the satellite camera will
not be the same product on the GUI as the product just being inspected
in the SmartInspector. Also notice that if the satellite camera detects an
error the action can typically only be to stop the line since there is no
ejection possibility. However, it can be an advantage to stop the
production line immediately when the printer fails in order to avoid the
production of a long series of bad products.

One-sided label OR seal inspection (not bottom)

Inspection of one label (including ink quality control of the print) from
top or side. Alternatively, seal inspection from top – if possible.

One-sided label AND seal inspection (not bottom)

Inspection of one label (including ink quality control of the print) from
top/side and seal inspection from top. There are two possible
configurations for this feature:
• One colour camera is inspecting the label and the seal on non-
transparent trays with clear top foil
• One colour camera is inspecting a label on one of the sides and
another camera is performing seal inspection from top on
transparent sealings

Two-sided label inspection (not bottom)

Inspection of one label from top and one label from the side, front or
back – or from a satellite camera. The label inspections include ink
quality control of the print.

Multiple labels
The standard software module checks one label for each image. In
some cases, the customer wants the possibility for checking more than
one label on the same side – for instance a campaign label. This feature
can be a bit tricky because the position of a campaign label is typically
not that stable, and it will often occlude varying parts of the main label.
The software must be able to handle that. The feature offered presents a
very robust solution to this topic.
OCR/V reading (incl. Ink quality control)
The reading of one or two dates. The OCR module is combined with the
Ink Quality Control function which ensures no false ejections while still
giving the guarantee that no false print will be accepted. See separate
paper (“PrintInspection”) for the full description of the functionality.
Label number verification
In some cases, it is possible to read the small label number printed on
the edge of the label. The number is typically very small, and the
reading can be difficult. As a rule of thumb this function will be able
to read label numbers which are at least 1.2 mm high. For this feature
also the principle of one-out-of-ten can often be used with success.

Central Product Management, CPM

If more production lines produce the same types of products, it will
under certain conditions be possible to manage all lines from a central
server, where all taught-in products will be stored. The advantage is that
a product has to be taught-in only once on one of the lines and then it is
available for the other lines. The challenge for the customer is to ensure
that the production lines are producing similar products. Otherwise, the
vision system will make many rejections because of too big differences
between the reference product coming from another line and the
products being produced on the current line.
This option is, however, becoming increasingly popular in the food
production industry. The reason is that CPM module will force the
production to perform with a higher compliance. Put in other words, the
customer wants to use the CPM to ensure that it becomes impossible to
see which line has produced a given product.
This CPM module is developed with the focus on making it possible for
the customer to make a stepwise introduction of the CPM to the
production lines. The customer can select which products should still be
stored in a local database and which products can be downloaded
from the central database. This a great advantage and removes the
fear from the customer that the introduction of the CPM will reduce his
production for a long time.

ERP connectivity
The system can be connected to any kind of MES system for down-
loading and uploading production information. The system is prepared
for many different interfaces and new interfaces can be delivered with
a short notice.
