PHYSICS CHAPTER 4 : Moving Charges & Magnetism
1 Marks Questions
1. When the number of turns of the coil in the galvanometer is
doubled without changing any other factors, what happens to its
(i) voltage sensitivity? (ii) current sensitivity?

2. The velocity vector of a proton is directed perpendicular to the

plane of a current loop at its centre O as shown in the figure. What
will be the force acting on the proton at the centre of the loop?

1. A metal rod AB length 20 cm is kept in contact with a

conductors PQRS of negligible resistance to form a loop as shown
in the figure. A magnetic field of 0.2 T is acting perpendicular to

H E the plane of the loop. The resistance of the rod AB is 2Ω.

Determine the force required to move the rod at a constant speed of

T 3m/s.
2. Derive an expression for the torque acting on a current carrying
loop placed in a uniform magnetic field.
3. A long straight wire carries a current of 25 A. find the value of
the magnetic field a perpendicular distance of 15 cm from the wire.
Write any one difference between electric field lines and magnetic
field lines. Must every magnetic configuration have a North Pole
and a South Pole? Give an example.

1. The figure shows two infinitely long and thin parallel wires P
and Q placed 0.2 m apart perpendicular to the plane of the paper,
carrying equal currents of 20 A each. Find the magnetic field at a
point R, at a distances of 0.2 m from both the wires. The
symbol indicates that the current is directed inward.

2. A metallic wire is bent into a shape shown in the figure and

carries a current of 7.2 A. if the point O is the common centre of all
the circular segments of the wire of radii 2 cm, 4 cm and 6 cm, find
the magnetic field at the point O.
