Risk Assessment
Risk Assessment
Declaration: By submitting this assessment (Parts 1 – 4) for marking I declare that it is entirely my own work. I understand that falsely claiming that
the work is my own is malpractice and can lead to NEBOSH imposing severe penalties (see the NEBOSH Malpractice Policy for further information).
Important note: You must refer to the document ‘Unit IG2: risk assessment – Guidance and information for learners and Learning Partners’ while
completing all parts of this assessment. Your Learning Partner should provide you with a copy, but it can also be downloaded from the relevant
resources section for this qualification on the NEBOSH website.

risk assessment
During a safety tour and inspection with senior management, the effectiveness of the current
procedures was evaluated, and observations regarding the attitudes of the staff toward safety were
made. Going back to the information sources I gathered and the notes I made during th e analysis,
I could decide which additional controls I could use to reduce the risk.

Moral, general legal and financial Since we began offering construction services 35 years ago, Royal City Construction Pvt Ltd. has
arguments made "Safety Comes First" (SCF) a cornerstone of everything we do. RCC has a moral obligation to
provide a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, workers, and the community at
large; to enable every activity we perform in a way that it minimises or even completely eliminates
risks. This obligation extends beyond corporate policy and more importantly beyond practical culture.
In the event that a worker gets hurt on the job or has an accident, not only will he suffer, but so will
his dependents and family. As a result, Royal City Construction is completely devoted to maintaining
a safe working environment, whether it be for the benefit of our employees, subcontractors, tools,
buildings, or even the general public.
Royal City Construction is required by law to uphold the Occupational Safety and Health Convention
of 1981 in order to protect its employees (C155). The worker must be aware of both his own safety
and the safety of his co-workers. If a serious accident takes place at the workplace, the employer is
legally obligated to treat the injured employees and give compensation for lost wages, medical
expenses, first-aid expenses, and lost production time. The Company must pay to restore the broken
machinery and equipment and cover the costs of legal action, code of conduct prosecution, and
charges brought against Royal City Construction employees individually.
Additionally, the organisation may experience financial consequences due to rule violations or a toxic
work environment. These consequences include both direct and indirect costs, which are as follows:
Lost output and the time spent on the investigations that followed; Those brought on by plant damage
and replacement and clean-up procedures; Paying those involved during absences due to illness or
accident; Having to find and train replacement labour; costs associated with potential enforcement
action or a civil lawsuit from harmed parties, as well as the inescapable increase in insurance rates.
Action To lessen gas and fume inhalation, face masks or respirators should be purchased. (Hazard
Category “Hazardous Substance (Chemical)”)
Specific legal arguments The adoption of a work system and procedures that eliminates or reduces the risk is required by
ILO C-170 Chemical Convention 1990, specifically Article 13(d). Additionally, section 14 of the
Indian Factories Act of 1948 mandates that effective measures be made to stop the accumulation
of pollutants in the work area and the inhalation of any dust, fumes, or other emissions that may
result from processes carried out in the facility. The norms and regulations mentioned above are
obviously broken in the situation at hand.
Consideration of likelihood AND severity The likelihood of injury is very high. Because the person engaged in the activity is not wearing any
respiratory protection equipment and is in close proximity to the operation, the possibility of
exposure to fumes and dust during welding activity is nearly inevitable. 60 workers were involved in
chemical handling process for 7 hours a day.
4 categories of Severity;
Because breathing in hazardous vapours and gases can have immediate side effects including
respiratory irritation and breathing difficulties, the intensity of the dangers is also very high. Risks
are classified as "Major" or "Catastrophic" depending on how likely they are to have negative
outcomes. Lung cancer might result from persistent impacts.
Action All broken power tool cables should be replaced with double-insulated cables and appropriate plug-
in pins. (Hazard Category “Electricity”)
Specific legal arguments The following laws are being broken in the current circumstances. ILO C-167 Construction
Convention ARTICLE 26, 1988 states that technical regulations and standards must be followed
while installing and maintaining electrical cables and equipment on construction sites. Additionally,
there is a blatant breach of BOCW Act 1996 Section 40(2n and 2q), which outlines the employer's
duty to exercise caution to prevent mishaps with live electrical apparatus.
Consideration of likelihood AND severity The likelihood of injury is very high. Due to the live conductor being exposed and the damaged
plug pins most of the time the equipment is in use, there is a high possibility that a danger would
arise. 30 personals were involved in electrical work for 6 hours a day including electricians and
helpers. The likelihood of getting an electric shock, burns, and cardiac arrest is very high, and the
severity of the hazard is likewise great. Risks are classified as "Major" or "Catastrophic"
depending on how likely they are to have negative outcomes, such as death. There is also a
chance that a fire or explosion will cause property damage and personal injury.
How effective the action is likely to be in
By lowering the chances that the operator will come into touch with the live wire and hence lower
controlling the risk. This should include:
the likelihood of the hazard, replacing all broken cables of power tools with double insulated cables
To reduce the risk of entanglement, proper guarding should be built on moving elements of power
Action
equipment. (Hazard Category “Work equipment and machinery”)
Specific legal arguments This is a blatant violation of ILO Convention C199 - Guarding of Machinery, 1963 ARTICLE 2,
which specifies that all moving parts that could pose a risk to anyone coming into contact with them
must be protected or designed to do so. Controls must likewise be protected or designed to do so.
Additionally, C-155 ARTICLE 16 paragraph 1 mandates the provision of guards and protective
clothing for personnel and machines. Additionally, there is a violation of Sections 21, 30, and 22 of
the FACTORIES ACT 1948 AND 1987 AMENDMENTS, which is a national law.
Consideration of likelihood AND severity The likelihood of injury is very high. The probability of the hazard will materialise is, according to
the aforementioned table, the lack of a protective guard on the power tool in use, the worker's loose
clothing, and the fact that the equipment is typically in use are the most likely causes. 30 workers
were involved in machine handling process for 6 hours a day. As a result, there is a considerable
likelihood of becoming entangled with a moving part. Because entanglement can result in personal
injuries such amputation of body parts, cuts and bruises, abrasion, etc., the hazard severity is
classified as "Major" or "Catastrophic" depending on how likely they are to have negative
outcomes, such as death.
How effective the action is likely to be in
The risk can be greatly reduced by installing guarding around the moving parts of power tools. The
controlling the risk. This should include:
guarding will physically stop any loose clothing from becoming tangled up with the moving portion,
• the intended impact of the action; reducing the risk. The protection will lessen the possibility of tangles with the moving component.
Planned review date/period with The risk assessment should be evaluated every 12 months in accordance with Royal City
reasoning Construction Pvt Ltd corporate policy, so I've scheduled a review for July 5, 2023. The risk
assessment will be evaluated before this date if there is a change in the firm's workforce, a change
in the law, the introduction of new equipment, or the implementation of a new process, as these
changes may create new dangers for the organisation.
How the risk assessment findings will be Top management will be informed of the results of the risk assessment by scheduling safety
communicated AND who you need to tell meetings so that all the risks and recommended control measures can be discussed with them. I
will also inform the management team of the likelihood and seriousness of the risks involved and
how those factors will impact the business in terms of moral, legal, and financial matters. All
accountable members of senior management will receive a copy of the risk assessment through
email. It will also be made available on the workplace intranet and published on the notice board.
The toolbox presentation will contain the risk assessment's findings so that the workers are also
made aware of the site's dangers.
How you will follow up on the risk I'll make a list of the tasks that must be completed on the jobsite. To act as a reminder of the
assessment to check that the actions objective, I'll set an alarm on my phone. I will inform Royal City Construction Management's
have been carried out financial manager and project manager one week before the deadline so they can assess the
improvements. In order to determine whether the activity and execution plan are on track to be
completed by the deadline, I will follow up with the pertinent parties. If there are any problems, I
may have a casual conversation with the staff members in charge of the activity to find a solution.
Managing financial issues, for instance, can entail expressing their seriousness to the financial
manager; if anything, more outside of the office needs to be done, it can be done by reassessing
the risk.
