GOVERNMENT GIRLS COLLEGE M.SC. SEMESTER 3
KOTA (RAJESTHAN ) (BOTANY )
FIELD VISIT REPORT

INTRODUCTION

on 22 December 2023,40 students with 2 lecturer went for a trip to

ICAR-INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SOIL AND WATER
CONSERVATION,RESEARCH CENTRE(Formerly, Central Soil
and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute), KOTA
(Rajasthan) .
we arrived there at 11:30am

ICAR was established in October, 1954, by the Ministry of Food and

Agriculture, (Govt. of India) to conduct research on problems related
to ravine lands of Chambal river system. It is situated near Kota
Junction railway station on the right bank of Chambal River.
During over 65years of its existence, this premier institution
pioneered research and training programmes committed towards
development and dissemination of suitable technologies for
reclamation and productive utilization of ravines and adjoining
marginal lands. Out of the estimated 3.6 million ha of ravine lands in
India specific target area of the Centre has been 0.45 million ha
located along the Chambal river system.

TRIP OBJECTIVE

The objective of this trip was get to know about the ICAR in more
details in terms of faculty' s operation. Also to get exposer on
products and plants . Also to learn about labelling of products-
comparison between local products and overseas product.

The centre is taking up new areas of research like updating

technology for appraisal of status and extent of gully erosion,
managing soil cracks in vertisols, water budgeting of land use
systems, carbon budgeting of land use systems, evaluation of fruit
and medicinal plants for ravines and degraded lands, management
techniques for reducing gestation period and
efficient resour

The main purpose of going to ICAR is that-

1.There are many attractive plants
2.there are bamboo wild area.
3.This place have all facilities.
FIELD OBSERVATION
we are guided by Haroon Aarya and Dr. S. Kala ma’am who explained
everything about the ICAR

1.SAVE WATER
I have a note book in which we recorded everything. First of all Aarya
sir and kala ma'am told us that how we can save water by a tank
which was connected to the land. In this tank
rain water was collected.

2.MOSAM SHALA(METEOROLOGICAL LABORATORY)

After that we all went to Mausam shala. It is a principal agency
responsible for meteorological observation weather forecasting and
seismology.
There are many tools and techniques in Mausam shala which are
following-

(A)SUNSHINE RECORDER
A sunshine recorder is an instrument used to sunshine duration.
sunshine recorder is a device that records the amount of sunshine at
a given location or region at any time. The results provide
information about the weather and climate as well as the
temperature of a geographical area. This information is useful in
meteorology, science, agriculture, tourism, and other fields. It has
also been called a heliograph.

(B)SOIL THERMOMETER)
Also called THERMOMETER.
A thermometer used to measure the temperature of the soil. Two
forms of the mercury-in-glass thermometer are used for this
purpose. For measurement at small depths, a thermometer with a
right-angle bend in the stem is used.

(C)WIND VANE
A wind vane, weather vane, or weathercock is an instrument used
for showing the direction of the wind. It is typically used as an
architectural ornament to the highest point of a building. The word
vane comes from the Old English word fana, meaning "flag".

(D)ANEMOMETER
In meteorology, an anemometer is a device that measures wind
speed and direction. It is a common instrument used in weather
stations. The earliest known description of an anemometer was by
Italian architect and author Leon Battista Alberti (1404–1472) in

1450.

(E)AUTOMATICRAIN GAUGE
A form of precipitation in which rainfall water reaches the earth from
the atmosphere is measured by an instrument called rain gauge. Rain
gauge is also variously known as hyetometer, Ombrometer, or
Pluviometer
(F)OPEN PAN EVAPORIMETER
Pan evaporation is a measurement that combines or integrates the
effects of several climate elements: temperature, humidity, rain fall,
drought dispersion, solar radiation, and wind. Evaporation is greatest
on hot, windy, dry, sunny days; and is greatly reduced when clouds
block the sun and when air is cool, calm, and humid. Pan evaporation
measurements enable farmers to understand how much

Water their crops will need.

(G) SINGLE STEVENSON
A Stevenson screen or instrument shelter is a shelter or an enclosure
used to protect meteorological instruments against precipitation and
direct heat radiation from outside sources, while still allowing air to
circulate freely around them.[1] It forms part of a standard weather
station and holds instruments that may include thermometers
(ordinary, maximum/minimum), a hygrometer, a psychrometer, a
dewcell, a barometer, and a thermographs

(3) 0THERES
(A) Common name -sarsoo
Botanical name - Brassica campastris
Family-Brassicaceace
(B)common name-Aanwala
Botanical name-Phyllanthus emblica
Family-Phyllanthaceae
(C)common name-Amrood
Botanical name-Psidium guajava
Family-Myrtaceae

(C)Common name-chiku
Botanical name -Manikara zapota
Family-Spotaceae
(D )BAMBOOS WILD AREA

(D)Common name -ber/boor/Jujube

Botanical name-Zizyphus mauaritiana
Family-Rhamnaceaess

CONCLUSION
Our trip ended about 3:00pm.It can be concluded that the trip was
successful and we believed that our objective was achieved. we
learned something new and beneficial for us. We saw there many
medicinal plants, Chambal river, and many fruiting plants.
