Abstracts
In the final assignment, we were given the responsibility of designing a network structure for a
four-story building in the startup business. It is an opportunity for us to apply all the knowledge
that we learn from Network Fundamental and Applications course as we will have to use Cisco
Packet Trace to design the network.

Introduction and Objectives

In this report, the team, which consists of five students, collaborates to design and develop a
physical and logical network structure for a four-story building. There are various criteria for
network design, such as the number of individuals a room can accommodate or the amount of
communication that can be shared across rooms.
To begin, the team must devise a practical physical layout that will accommodate the needed
number of employees while also distributing work equitably among the team members. The team
then agreed on the room layout for each floor and the estimated number of guests in each room.
Second, the group determines the number of computers needed based on the need that each person
have a computer. I choose to design marketing department which is floor numbering 4 in this
assignment. In the logical layout, we all agree to use static IP addresses for every end device. To
communicate between the floors, we configure the gateway and multiuser.
Furthermore, the group was required to limit access and communication between rooms as part of
the task. To accomplish this, the group decided to utilize the InterVLAN Routing on Layer 3
Switches.
Finally, the team worked to create the circumstances for IoE (internet of everything) control,
including capabilities like fire warning and home intruder, for both direct and remote control.
Through this assignment, I gain an insight how a network is built and how to set up IoE systems
on top of it. I was able to review all the skills that learned in the course, such as comprehending
layer 2 and 3 in the OSI model, by working to build a network from the ground up. I was also got
chance to implement fundamental configurations such as VLAN and simulation, as well as expand
their awareness of the Internet of Everything, using principally Packet Tracer (IoE).

Physical layout design

Hierarchy: As we all agreed to go with Cisco three-tier network with one core multilayer switch
for the core layer and four distribution multilayer switches on each floor, my floor 4 – marketing
is designed as diagram in figure 1.

This design is extremely beneficial since it improves efficiency, simplifies debugging, secure and
allows for simpler filtering and scalability. I also apply interior wall wiring for the physical design
which help people to observer the network easily (figure 2).

Group work
When working in the final assignment, we were able to cooperate with each member of the team
very well with the support from online meeting tools such as Google Meet and Microsoft Team.
As we worked in a team from the beginning of this semester, each member understands how to
deal with their task individually and ask for support from teammates when needed. We also share
sources that related to assigned task such as VLAN, server, IoT, password and so on.

Beside cooperate well with each other as a team, we also face difficulties due to the Covid 19 lock
down. Since it is quite troublesome for not being able to meet face-to-face and must use online
tools as a substitute. We were also having a little trouble when assigning the task for the team as
we have 5 members which exceed the number of floors in the requirements. Only with the support
of the lecturer, Mrs. Anna Felipe, we were able to handle the problem easily. We also have trouble
when scheduling the meeting since each member have their own timetable and we can only
communicate at night.

In the end, the project was quite a challenge. But we are able to coordinate with each other well to
complete the final assignment and meet all expectations.

Conclusion
After completing this project, the team had a better knowledge of how to build a network and
incorporate IoE technologies into it, introducing the idea of IoE. Working together, the group
discovered the topology of a network as well as a few Packet Tracer capabilities such as InterVlan
Routing. Furthermore, the group must develop an IoE system with basic functions such as fire
alarm and home intruder as part of the project. Overall, the tasks give a comprehensive grasp of
the course and need a thorough understanding of the teachings throughout the course.
