1. a) What is meant by statistical analysis of random errors? Explain the terms [8M]
involved in it.
b) Explain the various elements of generalized measurement system with a neat [7M]
sketch.

2. a) Discuss the following transducers with respect to their construction, working and [8M]
characteristics: i) Piezo-electric; ii) Capacitance.
b) How thermocouples are useful in the measurement of average temperature of a [7M]
room? Explain.

3. a) Explain with the help of suitable sketches, the difference between a Bellow [7M]
gauge and a diaphragm gauge for pressure measurement.
b) Describe the construction and working principle of Ionization pressure gauge. [8M]

4. a) With neat sketches describe: [8M]


i) Bubbler level indicator; ii) Ultrasonic level method.
b) With the help of a neat diagram, explain the construction, working and special [7M]
features of Laser Doppler anemometer.

5. a) Describe the functioning of a stroboscope. Explain how speed of a rotating shaft [8M]
can be measured using a single pattern and multi-pattern disc.

6. a) How are the electrical strain gauges classified? Explain their characteristics. [7M]
