Commercial Vehicles:
India's truck and bus industry, the world's fifth-biggest commercial vehicle market, that makes products ranging
from small pickups to large multi-axle trailer trucks, has been boosted due to increase in infrastructure spend,
strong replacement demand and robust economic growth that increased freight movement.
mmercial Vehicle Categories
Indian Commercial Vehicles (CV) market is segmented on the basis of Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) into: Heavy
Commercial Vehicles (HCVs), Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) and Small Commercial Vehicles
( SCV's). GVW is defined as vehicle weight plus the rated payload; the rated payload being the maximum weight
permitted to be loaded on to the vehicle under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Broadly, vehicles with GVW of <4 Tonnes are classified as SCV's , <16 Tonnes are classified as LCVs and others
are classified as HCVs. Further depending upon end-use, CVs can be either passenger carriers or goods carriers.
