V. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 3 X 4 = 12

36. An organization conducted bike race under two different categories boys and girls.
There were 28 participants in all. Among all of them, finally three category 1 and two
from category 2 were selected for final race. Ravi forms two sets B and G with these
participants for his college project let B={b 1,b2,b3} and G={g1,g2} where B represents
the set of boys selected and G the set of girls selected for final race.

i) How many relations are possible from

ii) Among all the possible relations from B to G. How many functions can be formed
from B to G.

iii) a) Let R:B→B defined by R={(x,y), x and y are students of the same sex} check R is
an equivalence relation in B or not.
b) A function f:B→G defined by f={(b1,g1), (b2,g2), (b3,g1)} check if f is bijective. Justify
your answer?

37. A dealer Ram prakash residing in a rural area opens a shop to start his business. He
wishes to purchase a number of ceiling fans and table fans. A ceiling fan costs him
Rs.360 and table fan costs Rs.240.

i) If Ram Prakash purchases x ceiling fans y table fans. He has space in his store for
atmost 20 items, than write its constraints.

ii) If he excepts to sell ceiling fan at profit of Rs.22 and table fan for a profit of Rs.18,
then express the profit Z (interms of x and y)

iii) a) If he sells all the fans that he buys then write the number x,y of both the type of
fans in stock to get maximum profit.

OR

b) What is the maximum profit of selling all the fans.

38. The use of electric vehicle will curb air pollution in the long run. The use of electric
vehicle is increasing every year and estimated electric vehicle in use at any time t is
