1.0 INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this method statement is to describe the methodology involved for pre-bore
works and its related activities for pre-bore works and to details out the steps to be taken to
meet the specific requirements.

2.0 DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This Method Statement covers all pre-bore works as detailed in approved construction drawings
and project specifications.

3.0 DEFINITIONS

4.0 LOCATION OF WORK

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

5.1 It is overall responsibility of Project Manager to organize resources to perform construction


activities as per project specification, in compliance with quality, schedule & safety
requirements.

5.2 It is the responsibility of Construction/Site Manager that construction activities are


executed according to the relevant project specifications, in compliance with quality, schedule
& safety requirements.

5.3 It is the responsibility of Safety officer that all personnel are issued with a safety
procedure. And safety procedure will be applied and controlled full time by experienced super
visor.

5.4 Sub-Contractor Site engineers will ensure that all works are performed safely as per latest
‘Construction’ drawings & specifications.

5.5 The relevant Sub-Contractor supervisor will ensure that all the work is conducted in
accordance with this method statement and project specification.

5.6 The QC Inspector (if necessary) will ensure that all work is executed according to
requirement of quality is fulfilled.

6.0 TOOL AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT

i. Micropiling machine; Hydraulic rotary crawler (model Komatsu)


ii. Welding set
iii. Oxy cutter
iv. Compressor
v. Drilling rod, hammer, bit.

7.0 PRE-BORE WORK PROCEDURE

7.1. Material / Systems

All materials/systems involved in Pre-bore works shall be approved by the Consultant.


Copies of all material approval will be available at site.

7.2. Setting Out

Prior to the commencement of drilling operation, the pegged pile position is checked by
the supervisor and countercheck on site by the COW/RE. If the utilities or services are
known to be on the pre-bore alignment or in close vicinity, they will be marked according
to the latest information provided and the piloting done prior to work commencement.

Setting out of pile location to be sign off by all parties (Surveyor/GC) prior drilling activity.

The pile point is determined by a license surveyor and position the drill rig on top of the
point. The first drill rod with a drill bit is placed above the drill point. Ensure verticality is
achieved before starting drilling works. This is done by checking the verticality of the
first drill rod and the mast by using a spirit level.

7.3. Pre-bore Drilling

a) For drilling in soil and rock, the pre-bore hole is formed by pressure air from high
pressure compressor through soils/rock strata. The advancement of hole is
achieved by an auger head which is attached to the drill rod and connected to the
rotary head which is powered by hydraulic motor.

7.4. Pre-bore Records

All details of drilling are to be recorded in the standard drilling records. (Please provide
the Standard pre-bore Record Form).

8.0 HSE BASIC REQUIREMENTS

i. Good housekeeping shall be observed in work areas. Construction wastes shall be


segregated and disposed to an approved dump yard.
ii. All personal must wear personal protection equipment (PPE) while the erection at site.
iii. Restrict work area to authorized personnel.
iv. Contractor shall ensure that all persons at site comply with stated safety guidelines and
regulation.
v. Supervisor and safety supervisor (if included in contract) must fulltime on site to monitor
and make sure the safe practice of construction works. If found out any unsafe material
placement, the work must stop immediately.
vi. Drilling, grouting, hoisting, delivery, transportation and relevant work shall carried on with
the present of spotter and traffic controller.
vii. All materials that need to be stored near to excavation pit must be placed on level ground
or lower ground relative to the excavation pit lip, must have a safe clearance of at least
1 metres from excavation pit lip and must secured properly.
