INTRODUCTION
As part of our community program ,a program was conducted at Marian Public School
On the basis of importance of waste management .Waste management is so necessary in
the locality since we trainees observed that the main problem faced in this locality is lack
of waste management .So we decided to take that as our topic for community program .We
observed that all the wastes are thrown here and there without any proper management
.They are disposed without any management .,therefore proper management should be
taken in order to stop this issue.When we discussed it with the authorities of maraykulam
panachayath they told that they have done many steps .But we observed that all the
measures are not done properly ,and also all these things are not done properly and the
excuses given was not that satisfied.Therefore by finding this as a major issue we decided
to took a session about the importance of waste management .we observed that many
students are throwing garbage and plastic covers without any sort of thinking .Inorder to
create an awareness among students we decided to conduct an awareness session along
with a drawing and coloring competition after the session .The title of the program was
waste wise and the topic was waste management .The competition was conducted at
Marian Public school ,Marykulam .The topic was shared between the trainees in order to
make the students a clear cut understanding.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVE

GOAL
The goal of the session is to create awareness among students about the importance of
proper waste management and to inspire them to adopt responsible waste disposal
practices, thereby contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment in their local
community.

OBJECTIVES

❖ To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of waste management


principles, including the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) concept and the
environmental impacts of improper waste disposal.

❖ To encourage students to change their waste disposal habits by promoting


responsible waste handling, recycling, and reducing waste generation.

❖ To instill a sense of responsibility and community engagement by emphasizing the


role of individuals in contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment through
proper waste management.
❖ To allow students to express their understanding of waste management through
creative means, such as drawing and coloring, promoting a deeper connection to the
subject matter.

❖ To leave a lasting impact on students' environmental consciousness, motivating them


to become proactive advocates for responsible waste management practices within
their school and local community.

❖ By setting these objectives, the session aims to empower students with knowledge
and inspire them to take meaningful action towards more responsible waste
management, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future.

SUMMARY
As part of community program we conducted an awareness creation session about the
importance of proper waste management .The program was about the importance of waste
management in the area we are living .The Title of the program was waste wise .Wasting
wisely was our theme .Since the waste management is a very relevant topic.The session
was conducted for 40 minutes and 1 hour for drawing and coloring competition .The
resource persons for the session was Cinta Binu ,Goutham Krishna,and Jibin Tomy.The
program was conducted inorder to create awareness among students about the importance
of disposing garbage correctly and managing it properly .We first consulted with the
principle of Marian Public School.He was very much welcoming .He was very happy to
arrange a session for awareness class and drawing and coloring competition .The students
of seventh standard was assigned for the session .

"Waste Wise - Wasting Wisely" was a community initiative designed to enlighten


seventh-grade students about the critical importance of proper waste management. The
program featured a 40-minute awareness session led by knowledgeable resource persons,
including Cinta Binu, Goutham Krishna, and Jibin Tomy, who covered topics ranging from
waste reduction to the environmental consequences of poor waste disposal. Prior to the
event, the team sought and received the warm support of the Marian Public School
principal, who recognized the significance of this educational effort. Following the
informative session, a one-hour drawing and coloring competition allowed students to
creatively express their newfound knowledge. Through this initiative, the aim was not only
to raise awareness but also to instill a sense of responsibility in these young minds,
empowering them to become advocates for proper waste management within their
community. The program was divided into two segments, with a 40-minute awareness
session and a subsequent 1-hour drawing and coloring competition.

Resource Persons divide the topics.Cinta Binu served as one of the resource persons. She
brought valuable insights and knowledge about the environmental impact of improper
waste disposal and the benefits of recycling. Goutham Krishna contributed his expertise in
waste management practices and shared practical tips on reducing, reusing, and recycling
waste.Jibin Tomy: Jibin Tomy, the third resource person, provided information on the
importance of community involvement in waste management efforts and encouraged
students to take active roles.

Before conducting the program, the organizing team approached the principal of Marian
Public School to seek permission and support. The principal was enthusiastic and
welcomed the idea with open arms. He recognized the importance of educating the
students about waste management and offered the school's facilities for the awareness class
and the drawing and coloring competition. The session was designed for seventh-grade
students, making it an age-appropriate and impactful initiative to instill good waste
management habits early in their lives.The 40-minute awareness session featured engaging
presentations and discussions led by the resource persons. Key topics covered during the
session included.Students were introduced to the concept of waste management,
emphasizing its importance in keeping our environment clean and healthy.The resource
persons highlighted the adverse effects of improper waste disposal on ecosystems, wildlife,
and human health, creating a sense of responsibility among the students. The 3R (Reduce,
Reuse, Recycle) principle was explained in detail, encouraging students to minimize waste
generation, find creative ways to reuse items, and actively participate in recycling
programs.Jibin Tomy stressed the importance of collective community efforts in managing
waste effectively. Students were encouraged to take action in their local neighborhoods.

Following the awareness session, students were given an opportunity to express their
understanding of waste management through art. The 1-hour drawing and coloring
competition allowed students to showcase their creativity and reinforce the lessons learned
during the session..Then drawing and colouring competition was conducted after the
awareness session .Therefore the colouring competition was for the same students after the
sesion they were asked to do draw and colour according to the given topic .Everyone
performed very well and we distributed the prize to the winners and the program ended by
1:00 pm. The "Waste Wise - Wasting Wisely" program was a collaborative effort between
the organizing team, the resource persons, and Marian Public School. It aimed to educate
seventh-grade students about the importance of responsible waste management, leaving a
lasting impact on their environmental consciousness and encouraging them to become
stewards of their community's cleanliness and sustainability.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROGRAMME


The implementation of the "Waste Wise program involves several key steps and
considerations to ensure its success:

❖ Planning and Preparation:


The planning and preparation of the program was done for coordinating and
executing the program.The objective of the program is to create the awareness
among students ,the plan is made to organize the program ,The targeted audience is
also identified Then the permission is taken from the college and also from the
principle of the school to conduct the program.
❖ Resource Person Selection:
We three trainees of the group where the resource person .We all studied waste
management properly and shared the topic between three and also ensured we are
well understandable in waste management and can engage with students effectively.
❖ Program Schedule:
Set a date and time for the program, ensuring it does not clash with the school's
academic schedule or other events. specific time slots for the awareness session and
the drawing and coloring competition.The program was scheduled on 02/08/2023.
❖ Promotion and Awareness:

Promote the program within the school through poster.


❖ Awareness Session:
Conduct the 40-minute awareness session with the resource persons delivering
informative presentations and engaging discussions.Encourage active participation
and questions from the students to ensure they grasp the concepts.
❖ Drawing and Coloring Competition:
Organize the drawing and coloring competition, providing participants with
necessary materials.
❖ Prizes and Recognition:
Recognize and reward winners of the drawing and coloring competition with prizes

Objective: The program aimed to raise awareness about responsible waste management

practices and encourage community members to adopt more sustainable behaviors.

Program Highlights:

1. Awareness Session (40 Minutes):

● The program began with a comprehensive awareness session led by resource


persons Cinta Binu, Goutham Krishna, and Jibin Tomy.
● The session covered essential topics, including waste management principles, the
environmental impact of improper waste disposal, recycling, and the 3R (Reduce,
Reuse, Recycle) concept.
● Interactive elements, including engaging discussions and thought questions, to get
active participation from the students
● Resource persons effectively conveyed the importance of waste management,
leaving a significant impact on participants.

2. Drawing and Coloring Competition (1 Hour):

● Following the awareness session, a drawing and coloring competition took place.
● Participants, primarily seventh-grade students, displayed creativity and knowledge
in their artwork, showcasing their understanding of responsible waste management.
● Judges evaluated the entries based on creativity, relevance to the theme, and the
incorporation of waste management messages.
3. Evaluation and Feedback:

● After the program, feedback was collected from participants, teachers


● The feedback revealed that the program had successfully increased awareness and
understanding about the importance waste management among the participants.

Report on participation and nature of participants

The participants of the program was students of Marian Public School,Marykulam.The

participants were 7 th class students .The participants were very cooperative they listened
the session very well.The "Waste Wise - Wasting Wisely" program, held at Marian Public
School, Marykulam, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 7th-class students who
showcased remarkable engagement and cooperative spirit. These young participants
actively listened and engaged in the awareness session, demonstrating a strong interest in
understanding the principles of waste management and its environmental significance.
They posed insightful questions and actively contributed to discussions, showcasing their
curiosity and enthusiasm for the topic. During the subsequent drawing and coloring
competition, the students displayed creativity, crafting artwork that reflected their
newfound knowledge of responsible waste management. Their active involvement and
receptiveness underscored the program's success in raising awareness and fostering a sense
of responsibility toward waste management in our community. We extend our appreciation
to the students, teachers, and school administration for their invaluable support in making
this program impactful.
CONCLUSION

The "Waste Wise - Wasting Wisely" program has come to a close with resounding success.
At Marian Public School, Marykulam, the 7th-grade students proved to be active and
engaged participants throughout the program. Their unwavering enthusiasm, inquisitive
minds, and commitment to learning about responsible waste management were evident
during the awareness session. They actively listened, asked insightful questions, and
participated enthusiastically in discussions, reflecting a genuine desire to comprehend the
importance of responsible waste disposal. Furthermore, the drawing and coloring
competition that ensued showcased their creativity and dedication to spreading awareness
about waste management. As the program concludes, it is clear that we have achieved our
primary goals of raising awareness and instilling a sense of responsibility in these young
minds. We extend our gratitude to the students, teachers, and school administration for
their wholehearted support and active involvement, which played a pivotal role in the
program's success. Looking forward, we are excited about the prospects of continued
initiatives in responsible waste management and environmental education, driven by the
enthusiasm and commitment of these young leaders.

EVALUATION

The program's primary goals of raising awareness about responsible waste management
and encouraging responsible waste disposal practices among 7th-grade students at Marian
Public School, Marykulam, were undeniably met. The program's organization and structure
were well-planned, with a balanced combination of an informative awareness session and a
creative drawing and coloring competition. What stood out most was the active and
enthusiastic engagement of the students; their active listening, insightful questions, and
genuine participation in discussions showcased their receptivity to the program's message.
Additionally, the program's impact was evident in the increased awareness among
participants regarding responsible waste management practices and their commitment to
taking positive environmental action. This success w*
as made possible through the invaluable support of the school administration, teachers, and
parents. In light of these achievements, it is recommended that the program continues as an
annual event at Marian Public School, with potential expansion to other institutions,
thereby fostering a sense of environmental consciousness and responsible citizenship
among the youth.
