Most desktop computers have several USB ports. These can be used to connect almost any type of device,
including the mouse, keyboard, digital camera, USB flash drive, scanner etc.
1. External hard drive
An external hard drive is a storage device that connects to a computer system to provide additional
storage space. Many external hard drives that connect to your device via USB are available—and backing
up your data on an external hard drive is never a bad idea. In case you lose or damage your laptop,
keeping your files on an external drive can give you peace of mind when it comes to saving a backup
copy of important documents, photos, and more.
2. Flash drive
A flash drive is a device for data storage that’s small and portable. To use a flash drive, connect it to your
laptop’s USB port, select and drag the files you want to save or share onto the drive, eject it, and hit the
road!
4. Mouse
The mouse is a handheld pointing device that controls the movement of the cursor or pointer on the
monitor or the display screen. It is connected to the computer system through a cable. For those that need
more versatility than a trackpad offers, a separate mouse that plugs into your laptop’s USB port can be
very useful. Corded mice that connect via USB are widely available and can enhance the experience of
using your Surface laptop.
2, Can be used to connect a mouse, keyboard or external modem. They send data one bit at a time and
are good for sending information over long distances.
ASSIGNMENT OF CONNECT HARDWARE PRIPHERIALS
USB port can be used to transfer data, act as an interface for peripherals and even act as power supply for
devices connected to it.
A serial port is an interface through which peripherals can be connected using a serial protocol which
involves the transmission of data one bit at a time over a single communication line.
Firewire Port
Transfers large amount of data at very fast speed. Connects camcorders and video equipment to the
computer. Data travels at 400 to 800 megabits per seconds.
1. Planning
In the planning phase in systems development, the systems analyst should focus on what the system is
aiming to achieve and use that information to find a way to achieve that goal. Without a planning phase, it
is difficult to have an idea of what needs to happen and when it needs to happen.
2. Requirements analysis
Also called systems definition/general design/logical design. Once all the facts are obtained, they are
analysed and evaluated in a systematic fashion in order to develop alternative plans to solve problems of
the current IS. Before looking to launch a new system, it is important to first understand what is needed to
develop the system successfully.
3. Designing
The purpose of this phase is to determine how to construct the IS to best satisfy the documented
requirements. The analyst/designer designs all the required IS outputs, files/databases, inputs, programs,
and manual procedures. Once all planning and requirements are in place, the plans are handed over to the
systems architect who can then start working on the design of the systems.
