Area of Isosceles Triangle Examples
• Example 1: Find the area of an isosceles triangle given the length
of the base is 10 cm and height is 17 cm?
Solution:
Base of the triangle (b) = 10 cm
Height of the triangle (h) = 17 cm
Area of Isosceles Triangle = (1/2) × b × h
= (1/2) × 10 × 17
= 5 × 17
= 85 cm2
• Example 2: Find the length of the base of an isosceles triangle
whose area is 243 cm2, and the altitude of the triangle is 9 cm.
Solution:
Area of the triangle, A = 243 cm2
Height of the triangle (h) = 9 cm
The base of the triangle = b =?
Area of Isosceles Triangle = (1/2) × b × h
243 = (1/2) × b × 9
243 = (b × 9)/2
b = (243 × 2)/9
b = 54 cm
Answer: The altitude of the given isosceles triangle is 54 cm.
• Example 3: Find the length of the equal sides of an isosceles
triangle whose base is 24 cm and the area is 60 cm2.
Solution:
We know that,
The base of the isosceles triangle = 24 cm
Area of the isosceles triangle = 60 cm2
Area of isosceles triangle = b/2 × √(a2 − b2/4)
Therefore,
60 = (24/2)√(a2 − 242/4)
60 = 12√(a2 − 144)
5 = √(a2−144)
Squaring both sides, we get,
25 = a2−144
a2 = 169
⇒a = 13 cm
Answer: The length of the equal sides of the given isosceles triangle is
13 cm.

To find the area of a equaltrial triangle ?

Example Questions Using the Equilateral Triangle Area
Formula
Question 1: Find the area of an equilateral triangle whose perimeter is 12 cm.
Solution:
Given: Perimeter of an equilateral triangle = 12 cm
As per formula: Perimeter of the equilateral triangle = 3a, where “a” is the side of
the equilateral triangle.
Step 1: Find the side of an equilateral triangle using perimeter.
3a = 12
a=4
Thus, the length of side is 4 cm.
Step 2: Find the area of an equilateral triangle using formula.
Area, A = √3 a2/ 4 sq units
= √3 (4)2/ 4 cm2
= 4√3 cm2
Therefore, the area of the given equilateral triangle is 4√3 cm2
Question 2: What is the area of an equilateral triangle whose side is 8 cm?
Solution:
The area of the equilateral triangle = √3 a2/ 4
= √3 × (82)/ 4 cm2
= √3 × 16 cm2
= 16 √3 cm2
Question 3: Find the area of an equilateral triangle whose side is 7 cm.
Solution:
Given,
Side of the equilateral triangle = a = 7 cm
Area of an equilateral triangle = √3 a2/ 4
= (√3/4) × 72 cm2
= (√3/4) × 49 cm2
= 21.21762 cm2
Question 4: Find the area of an equilateral triangle whose side is 28 cm.
Solution:
Given,
Side of the equilateral triangle (a) = 28 cm
We know,
Area of an equilateral triangle = √3 a2/ 4
= (√3/4) × 282 cm2
= (√3/4) × 784 cm2
= 339.48196 cm2
Right angle triangle ?

Example 1:
The longest side of a right triangle is 17 cm and the height is 15 cm. Find the
area of the right triangle.
Solution:
Given:
The longest side of a right triangle is 17 cm = Hypotenuse
Height = 15 cm.
To find the area of a right triangle, first, we need to find the base of the right
triangle.
Finding the Base of a Right Triangle:
Using Pythagoras theorem, the base can be calculated as follows:
(Hypotenuse)2 = (Base)2 + (Height)2
(17)2 = (Base)2 + (15)2
(Base)2 = 172 – 152
(Base)2 =289 – 225
(Base)2 = 64
Hence, Base = √64 = 8 cm.
Therefore, the base of the right triangle is 8 cm.
Finding the Area of a Right Triangle:
Area of right triangle = (½)×b×h square units
Substituting the values in the formula, we get
A = (½)×8×15 cm2
A = 4×15 cm2
A = 60 cm2
Therefore, the area of the right triangle is 60 cm2.
Example 2:
Calculate the height of the right triangle, whose base length is 60 m and area is
420 m2.
Solution:
Given:
Base = 60 m
Area = 420 m2
The formula for the area of a right-angle triangle is A = (½)×b×h square units.
Now, substitute the values in the formula
420 = (½)×60×h
420 = 30×h
h = 420/30
h = 14 m
Therefore, the height of the right triangle is 14 m.

Solved Examples on the Area of Parallelogram

Example 1: A field has the shape of a parallelogram. The length of one side is 10
yards, and the corresponding height is 6 yards. Find the area of the field.
Solution:
One side of the parallelogram = 10 yards
Corresponding height = 6 yards
Area of a parallelogram = A = base × height.
Area = 10 yards × 6 yards = 60 square yards.
Therefore, the area of the field is 60 square yards.

Area of Parallelogram Using Sides

Suppose a and b are the set of parallel sides of a parallelogram and h is the
height, then based on the length of sides and height of it, the formula for its
area is given by:

Area = Base × Height

A=b×h [sq.unit]

Example: If the base of a parallelogram is equal to 5 cm and the height is 3

cm, then find its area.
Solution: Given, the length of base=5 cm and height = 3 cm

As per the formula, Area = 5 × 3 = 15 sq.cm

Area of Parallelogram Without Height

If the height of the parallelogram is unknown to us, then we can use the
trigonometry concept here to find its area.

Area = ab sin (x)

Where a and b are the length of adjacent sides of the parallelogram and x is
the angle between the sides of the parallelogram.

Example: The angle between any two sides of a parallelogram is 90 degrees.

If the length of the two adjacent sides are 3 cm and 4 cm, respectively, then
find the area.

Solution: Let a = 3 cm and b=4 cm

x = 90 degrees

Area = ab sin (x)

A = 3 × 4 sin (90)

A = 12 sin 90

A = 12 × 1 = 12 sq.cm.

Note: If the angle between the sides of a parallelogram is 90 degrees, then it

is a rectangle.

Solved Examples on Area of Parallelogram

Question 1: Find the area of the parallelogram with a base of 4 cm and
height of 5 cm.

Solution:

Given:
Base, b = 4 cm

h = 5 cm

We know that,

Area of Parallelogram = b × h Square units

= 4 × 5 = 20 sq.cm

Therefore, the area of a parallelogram = 20 cm2

Question 2: Find the area of a parallelogram whose breadth is 8 cm and

height is 11 cm.

Solution:

Given,

b = 8 cm

h = 11 cm

Area of a parallelogram

=b×h

= 8 × 11 cm2

= 88 cm2

Question 3: The base of the parallelogram is thrice its height. If the area is
192 cm2, find the base and height.

Solution:

Let the height of the parallelogram = h cm

then, the base of the parallelogram = 3h cm

Area of the parallelogram = 192 cm2

Area of parallelogram = base × height

Therefore, 192 = 3h × h

⇒ 3 × h2 = 192
⇒ h2 = 64

⇒ h = 8 cm

Hence, the height of the parallelogram is 8 cm, and breadth is

3×h

=3×8

= 24 cm

Word Problem on Area of Parallelogram

Question: The area of a parallelogram is 500 sq.cm. Its height is twice its
base. Find the height and base.

Solution:

Given, area = 500 sq.cm.

Height = Twice of base

h = 2b

By the formula, we know,

Area = b x h

500 = b x 2b

2b2 = 500

b2 = 250

b = 15.8 cm

Hence, height = 2 x b = 31.6 cm
