Lesson Plan

Grade Level & Subject:


Topic: Present Perfect Continuous Tense
I. Objectives
At the end of 60 minutes, the students will be able to:
A. identify the form and meaning of the present perfect continuous tense.
B. appreciate the importance present perfect continuous tense in conversational context; and
C. use the present perfect continuous tense in context to describe ongoing actions that started in the past and continue
to the present.

III. Procedure
A. Preparation
1. Prayer
2. Review
a. Make them recall what verbs are.
b. Make them describe the function of verbs
c. Ask students to share their activities from the day. Ask them what they have been up to or
where they have been lately.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
Make the students prepare their writing materials then ask the students their hobby or something that
they have been doing from the past that they still do now. Provide examples:

 "I have been teaching English for three years."


 "I have been teaching at this school since 2023."

2. Analysis
Display sample Sentences:

"I have been teaching English for three years."


"He has been teaching at this school since 2023."

a. What have you noticed in the sentence?


b. How about the highlighted words?
c. How about the underlined words?
d. What do you think is our topic all about?
3. Abstraction
a. Introduce the topic, explain the form of the present perfect continuous tense: (Have/Has + been + verb-ing)
and provide examples:
 "I have been studying English for three years."
 "She has been working at the hospital since 2010."
b. Discuss the meaning and usage:
 Emphasize that the tense is used to describe actions that began in the past and are still ongoing.
 Use visuals or real-life examples to illustrate the concept.

4. Application
Group Activity: Divide students into pairs or small groups. Provide students with conversation prompts
that require the use of the present perfect continuous tense. For example:
 "How long have you been living in Cebu?"
 "What have you been doing this week?"
 "Have you been learning a new language?"

Encourage students to practice their conversations with their partners and provide feedback on each
other's use of the present perfect continuous tense.

IV. Evaluation
Role-Play: Assign students roles for a role-play scenario. A job interview where the interviewer asks the
candidate about their work experience and skills. Have students perform their role-plays, focusing on using the present
perfect continuous tense appropriately.

V. Assignment
 Have students write short paragraphs or stories using the present perfect continuous tense.
 OR
 Ask students to create their own conversation prompts or role-play scenarios.
