Note: Attempt All questions. Each question carries 2 marks.

1. (i) A 60-W incandescent lamp is connected to a 120-V source and is left burning
continuously in an otherwise dark staircase. Determine:
a. the current through the lamp
b. the cost of operating the light for one non-leap year if electricity costs 9.5 cents
per kWh.

(ii) Three light bulbs are connected to a 9-V battery as shown in Fig. 1.

Calculate: (a) the total current supplied by the battery, (b) the current through each bulb,
(c) the resistance of each bulb. Also draw resistive circuit equivalent model.

2. (i) Find Vx in the circuit of Fig. 2

3. Find the node voltages in the circuit of Fig. 3.

4. Find IC, IB and v0 in the transistor circuit of Fig. 4. Assume that the transistor operates
in the active mode (VBE=0.7V) and that β=50.

5. Use mesh analysis to find the current in the circuit of Fig. 5.

6. Obtain v0 in the circuit of Fig. 6 using nodal analysis and mesh analysis. Very the results
of both techniques.

7. Find the Thevenin equivalent circuit of the circuit shown in Fig.7, to the left of the
terminals Then find the current through RL=36Ω.
