PROPER CONDUCT OF PROJECT
3. Each team must provide a project proposal that must include but is not limited to:
a. Step by step procedure of the dissection of animals.
b. Specified tools to be used in the experiment. All containers must be labeled.
c. Safety and Precautionary Measures to be followed prior and during the conduct of the
project.
d. Aftercare of all the materials used and proper disposal of biohazards.
e. Ethical and environmental consideration on the specimen/s used must be included in the
proposal.
f. NO PROPOSAL NO DISSECTION. NO APPROVED PROPOSAL NO DISSECTION.
4. Wearing of protective gears during the conduct of the experiment is a must. No team will be
allowed on the dissection table if one member is not following the rules and regulations assigned.
5. Post dissection, each team will be responsible in cleaning up their assigned area and properly
washing and handling of tools and disposal of waste.
6. NO FOOD or DRINK is allowed prior and during the conduct of the experiment. Stations must

June 5-6, 2023 (Monday-Tuesday) (8:00-9:30 AM) 90 minutes
1. Each team must have at least 1 animal and 1 plant specimen for dissection.
a. For animal specimen the team must preserve the specimen after the dissection in a sealed
and sterilized jar (big enough to hold the specimen) filled with formaldehyde (formalin).
b. For plant specimen
i. Flowers can be pressed or put in a resin case (if available)
ii. For fruit and vegetable, specimen can be sun dried or any suggested safe for
preservation.
2. Science students can suggest other specimen but must be discussed and approved by your
General Biology II teacher.
3. Any specimen considered endangered and/or extinct will not be accepted as part of the project.
4. Ethical use of each specimen must be strictly observed at all times.
Preservation Process
Plant/Fungi
1. Learners can used traditional method to preserve their specimen, either by drying, pressing, use
of resin, or any method proposed and approved for the preservation of specimen
Animal
1. The use of Formaldehyde (formalin) for tissue preservation must be used.
2. A clean sterilized environment and material must be used to avoid contamination.
3. All specimen must be kept in an airtight jar and stored in the laboratory away from sunlight.
4. Teams must recheck their specimen on a weekly basis and observe if mold or contamination
is present in their project, in this case the discretion to properly dispose of the specimen is
allowed.
