D. Discussion
Tone is the attitude or viewpoint of the narrator, author or speaker. It is achieved
through choice of words. The tone can be formal, informal, serious, sarcastic,
sad, gloomy, horror or cheerful.
Mood is what the readers feel while reading a sentence, scene or a story. It is
about the atmosphere of a scene or story. It’s what the reader reads, feels or
notices. Some examples are happy, sad, angry, excited, scared, hopeful, calm or
fearful.
Purpose is the author’s reason for writing. The three main purposes are to inform,
to entertain and to persuade. To inform means to enlighten the reader or
provide the reader with information. To entertain means to amuse readers. The
readers will find it funny and entertaining. It means to hold the attention of the
reader through enjoyment. To persuade means to convince the readers to believe
or do something.
