CHECK PACK CLEARANCE OF OVERDRIVE BRAKE Using a thickness gauge, measure the pack clearance between the snap ring and clutch flange, Standard clearance: (A45DL) 0.56 ~ 2.09 mm (0.0220 ~ 0.0823 in.) (A46DE, Aa6DF) 0 0.35 - 1.91 mm (0.0138 - 0.0752 in.) 2. REMOVE FLANGE, DISCS, PLATES AND CUSHION PLATE (a) Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring. (b) Remove the flange. AT-44 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ~ Component Parts (Overdrive Brake) (48DL) (AA6DE, A46DF)) / axer25| (AasDL) (©) Remove the two dises and two flanges. (A46DE, AS6DF) (c) Remove the three discs and three plates. (a) Remove the cushion plate, REMOVE OVERDRIVE PLANETARY RING GEAR, (a) Remove the O/D planetary ring gear. (b)_ Remove the bearing and two races. REMOVE PISTON RETURN SPRINGS (a) Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring. (b) Remove the spring seat and twelve springs. REMOVE OVERDRIVE BRAKE PISTON (a) Hold the 0/D brake piston with hand, apply com- pressed air into the passage to remove the 0/D brake piston. (b) Remove the two O-rings from the piston. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ~ Component Parts (Overdrive Brake) AT-45 Printed Number 6. REMOVE OIL SEAL RINGS Remove the two oil seal rings. INSPECTION OF OVERDRIVE BRAKE INSPECT DISC, PLATE AND FLANGE Check to see if the sliding surface of the disc, plate and flange are worn or burnt. If necessary, replace them. HINT: « If the lining of the disc is peeling off or discolored, or even if parts of the printed numbers are defaced, re- place all discs. ‘¢ Before assembling new dises, soak them in ATF for at least fifteen minutes. ASSEMBLY OF OVERDRIVE BRAKE 1, INSTALL OIL SEAL RINGS. (2) Coat the two oil seal rings with ATF. (b) Contact the oil seal rings and install them onto the 0/0 case. NOTICE: Do not spread the ring ends more than nec- essary. HINT: After installing the oil seal rings, check that they rotate smoothly. 2. INSTALL OVERDRIVE BRAKE PISTON (2) Coat the new O-rings with ATF and install them on the 0/D brake piston. (b) Being careful not to damage the O-rings, press in the brake piston into the O/D case with both hands. 3. INSTALL PISTON RETURN SPRINGS (2) Install the twelve piston return springs as shown in the figure. AT-46 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ~ Component Parts (Overdrive Brake) Fron —©G) Rear—©) 6 (b) Install the spring seat. (c) Pushing the spring seat, install the snap ring. Be sure the end gap of the snap ring is not aligned with the cutout portion of the O/D case. HINT: Make sure that the snap ring is inserted its groove. INSTALL OVERDRIVE PLANETARY RING GEAR (2) Coat the bearing and races with petroleum jelly and install them onto the overdrive case. HINT: Bearing and races diameter ‘mm (in.) Inside Outside Race (Front) 30.1 (1.188) 485 (1.909) Bearing 28.4 (1.118) 46.4 (1.827) Race (Rear) 27.8 (1.087) “4458 (1.752) (b) Install the O/D planetary ring gear. INSTALL CUSHION PLATE INSTALL PLATES AND DISCS (AasDL) Install the three flanges and two discs. (A46DE, A46DF) Install the three plates and three discs. Install in order: P = Plate D = Disc F = Flange (A45DL) FLD-F-D-F (A46DE. A46DF) P-D-P-D-P-D INSTALL FLANGE {a)_ Install the flange, the rounded edge facing upward. (b) Using a screwdriver, install the snap ring. Be sure the end gap of the snap ring is not aligned with the cutout portion of the O/D case. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION — Component Parts (Overdrive Brake) AT-47 8. CHECK PACK CLEARANCE OF OVERDRIVE BRAKE Using a thickness gauge, measure the pack clearance between the snap ring and clutch flange. Standard clearance: (AaSDL) 0,56 — 2.09 mm (0.0220 - 0.0823 in.) (AA6DE, A46DF) 0.35 — 1.91 mm (0.0138 - 0.0782 in.)
