DESIGN STUDIO-II
Project: Design of Bus Stop @ Airport
Course Instructors: Assoc. Prof. Krishna Pd. Bhuju , Assistant Prof. Usha Mandal, Assistant Prof. Rakshya
Rayamajhi and Ar. Nabin Ghising.

Introduction:
A bus stop is a designated place
where buses stop for passengers to
board or alight from a bus. The
construction of bus stops tends to
reflect the level of usage, where stops
at busy locations may have shelters,
seating, and possibly electronic
passenger information systems; less
busy stops may use as a simple pole
and flag to mark the location. Bus
stops are, in some locations,
clustered together into transport hubs allowing interchange between routes from nearby stops and with other
public transport modes to maximize convenience.

Study Methodology and Teaching-Learning Approach:

The study methodology basically consists of two pars—Literature review and case study through internet
and application of the findings into designing of a bus stop on the given site. The whole process can be
divided into three stages:

Stage 1—Lecture and class discussion:

As this project is designed for short time period, students will be reinforced through class lecture and
discussion.
Stage 2—Literature Review and Case study analysis:
This will be individual project. They will be provided site map and area. Site and case visit will be done
themselves independently in their convenient time. They shall reinforce their knowledge through literature
review and National/International case studies too. Students shall not require submitting report.

State 3—Individual planning and design of Bus Stop on given site:

With the background of the lectures, literature and case study analysis, each student will know to design
process including preparation a site analysis, concept development and ultimately design development
targeting mentioned requirements given below

Project Requirements:

• Provide fully/partially enclosed waiting and circulation areas.

• Taxi parking (3 nos.) as well as bike parking (3 nos.)

Seating and waiting area:

ƒ Provide seats for minimum 4-6 nos. of seating passengers.

ƒ Provide waiting areas which are able to accommodate 4-6 nos. of waiting passengers.
ƒ Travel Information and Clocks (digital/Signage)
