Assalaam u Alaikum everyone and Happy 77th Independence Day of

Pakistan. My name is Ayesha Fakih and I am in 4 th grade. Today, I feel thrilled


to speak about our Pakistani traditional foods.

Home to 241.5 million people, Pakistan is the fifth most populous country
and boasts a rich heritage of regional cultures, breathtaking views,
mesmerizing historical architecture and an exquisite layout of traditional
cuisines.

Today , let me take you all through a delectable journey filled with different
flavors and tempting dishes your taste buds will devour.

First off, let’s dock at Sindh with Karachi being the most famous and busy
city. Popular dishes here include Nihari( which is also the national dish of
Pakistan, it’s a slow cooked meat curry infused with exotic spice blends. We
also have Haleem, Delhi style Qorma,chicken tikka , seekh kababs , Bihari
kababs and last but not the least, everyone’s favorite Biryani.An aromatic
rice dish with mutton or chicken. Born in Iran and raised by the kitchens of
Mughal empire , Biryani remains a local as well as a global favorite.In
Pakistan, the dispute over Biryani with aloo or without aloo has recently
sparked its distinction from being ,either from Karachi, or Lahore. Time for a
fun poll, Whose team biryani with Aloos? …

Who’s team biryani without Aloos? Let’s leave this duscussion for a
different day and head over to Punjab. This rich cultural hub is a food
heaven for all foodies .Nulli niihari,Paye(rich curry of goat / cow hooves),
Sarson ka Saag with makai ki roti, Daal Makhni, Tandoori Raan with a buttery
naan and a cold hand churned glass of Lassi are an absolute must try .

Now let’s delve into the flavorful cuisines of Khyber pukhtunkhuwa(KPK) including Lamb
Kadhai, Namkeen gosht( slow cooked lamb meat stew), Balti Gosht and Chapli kababs which
were introduced by the Mughals, Turks and Aghans entering through the historic Khyber pass.
Trout fish is also a traditional favorite here.

Lastly, signature traditional dishes from our largest province of Baluchistan


include Slow cooked lamb dishes like Sajji , and DUMPUKHT .

Traditional street foods include papdi chaat, dahi baday, samosay, halwa
poori, chai paratha with a dhaba style kadak chai.

Ahh! I am drooling over these scrumptious cuisines so let’s head over to try
them out at our food stalls and choose your own favorite .
