SECTION A: (40 MARKS)


Answer all the questions in this section

1. (a) Prove that = sin 2𝜃

(b) Solve sin 2𝜃 = cos 𝜃 for 0° ≤ 𝜃 ≤ 90° (05 marks)

10. (a) The roots of the quadratic equation

11. (a) An open cardboard box is to be made by cutting small squares of

10 cm and folding along the dashed lines. Show that the volume 𝑽,
of the box is 𝑽 = 100𝑥 − 40𝑥 + 4𝑥 . Hence find the maximum
volume of the box. (07 marks)
(b) A spherical balloon is inflated such that the rate at which its radius
is increasing is 0.5 cms . Find the rate at which
(i) the volume is increasing at the instant 𝑟 = 5.0 cm
(ii) its surface area is increasing when 𝑟 = 8.5 cm (05 marks)

13. A curve is defined parametrically by the equations
