What Is This Module About?

This module is made to inform learners about spreadsheet application


which is the Microsoft Excel, there is a number of spreadsheet programs but of
all of them, Excel is the most widely used. People have been using it for the last
30 years and throughout these years, it has been upgraded with more and more
features. (LS6DC-DA/S-PSC-AE/JHS-29)

The best part about Excel is, that it can apply to many business tasks,
including statistics, finance, data management, forecasting, analysis, tracking
inventory & billing, and business intelligence. Persons who know anything about
microsoft excel spreadsheet application will make them more aware of their
usefulness and may use them in their daily lives and help them cope with the
different situations, especially in times of pandemic that we are suffering today.

Let’s Study and Analyze

In today’s world, technology plays a crucial role in nearly every aspect of our
lives. One of the topics that needs to be learned is Spreadsheet applications which
are widely used in various files of learning purposes due to their ability to organize
and analyze data. In this module, the steps on how to open a new blank workbook,
the steps in opening existing spreadsheet document, and the steps on how to close
a spreadsheet are discussed.

A. Steps on How to Create a New Blank Workbook

1. Click the start button.

2. If open, type the name of spreadsheet application in the search bar and
see icon to pop-up.

3. Click the excel icon to open and wait to proceed in the spreadsheet workbook.

4. Once the spreadsheet is open, click the “Blank Workbook” to start a new
spreadsheet workbook.

5. Welcome to MS excel spreadsheet, you are good to go!

B. Steps on How to Open an Existing Spreadsheet Document
1. Click the File tab.

2. Click Open.

Tips: Shortcut Press Ctrl + O to quickly display the Open tab of the
Backstage view.

3. Select the location where the file is saved.

You can choose from:

Recent: Recent files you've worked on.

Shared with Me: Files others have shared with you on OneDrive or SharePoint
Online.

OneDrive: Microsoft's cloud-based storage.

This PC: Browse files on your local computer.

Browse: Opens a dialog box where you can browse through your computer's
folders, drives, and network shares.

C. Steps on How to Close a Spreadsheet


1. In the spreadsheet workbook, click the specific control button seen on the
upper right corner of the spreadsheet window.

Click Save button to update the file.

I. Directions: Arrange the following step-by-step procedure in using Spreadsheet


application. Write “1” if that is the first step, “2” for second step, “3” for
third step, and so on.

A. Opening a New Blank Worksheet

After opening the start button, type the spreadsheet application in the
search bar and select the icon.

Once the spreadsheet is open, click the “Blank Workbook” to start a new
workbook.

Welcome to spreadsheet application, you are good to go!

Click the start button.

Click the spreadsheet icon to open and proceed in the workbook.

B. Opening a Saved Spreadsheet Document

Select the file you want to open.

Click Open. (Shortcut)

Click the File tab.

Wait for the spreadsheet to respond.

Select the location where the file is saved.

C. Closing a Spreadsheet application.

If there will be progress of the file in the spreadsheet, saving your file is
needed.

Glossary

Cell A cell is a smallest but most powerful part of a


spreadsheet. You can enter your data into a cell either
by typing or by copy-paste

Worksheet A worksheet is made up of individual cells which can


contain a value, a formula, or text. It also has an
invisible draw layer, which holds charts, images, and
diagrams.

Workbook A workbook is a separate file just like every other


application has. Each workbook contains one or more
worksheets.

Column A column is a vertical set of cells.

Row A row is a horizontal set of cells.

Fill Handle It’s a small dot present in the lower right corner of the
active cell.

Address Bar It shows the address of the active cell.

Formula Bar The formula bar is an input bar, below the ribbon. It
shows the content of the active cell, and you can also
use it to enter a formula in a cell.

Title Bar The title bar will show the name of your workbook,
followed by the application name (“Microsoft Excel”).

File Menu The file menu is a simple menu like all other
applications.

Quick Access A toolbar to quickly access the options which you

Ribbon Ribbon tabs are a bunch of specific option group which


further contains the option.

Worksheet Tab This tab shows all the worksheets which are present in
