Maintaining Sustainable Energy in Automated Systems for Large-Scale
Production Efficiency

Briefly about my internship in production company!

Using sustainable energy in automated systems is very important for making large-
scale production more efficient and less harmful to the environment. By integrating
automated systems with sustainable energy technologies, companies can use resources
more efficiently, lower costs, and help protect the environment. This report will cover
the key knowledge, skills, and practices that power engineer have taught to me to
effectively implement and maintain these systems.

During my internship at Ravshan Yodik Production , I gained valuable insights into

the implementation of sustainable energy systems in a real-world industrial setting.
This experience provided me with hands-on knowledge of the latest technologies and
practices in the field, which I will elaborate on throughout this final report.

Ravshan Yodik Production is a large company that recycles old paper to make
different types of boxes. These boxes are mainly used by companies that distribute
sweets and soda, so it's important that the production process is reliable and efficient.
Additionally, the company produces high-quality shrink and stretch films for
packaging, even for organic goods. They use pure and top-quality granules to ensure
the best results. This further demonstrates the company's dedication to sustainability
and quality in their production processes. This makes Ravshan Yodik a great example
of using sustainable energy in automated systems.

Detailed Content:

Introduction

Sustainable energy in automated systems is crucial for enhancing efficiency and

reducing environmental impact in large-scale production environments. Automated
systems integrated with sustainable energy technologies can significantly optimize
resource usage, lower operational costs, and contribute to environmental conservation.
This report explores the essential knowledge, skills, and practices required for power
engineers to implement and maintain such systems effectively.

Educational Training and Skills for Power Engineers

1. Power engineers in the paper recycling and box manufacturing industry must
possess a solid foundation in several core areas. This includes understanding electrical
systems and machinery, power distribution and management, industrial automation
and control, energy management, and adherence to safety standards.

2. Educational training of Electronics Engineering in Turin Polytechnic University

typically begins in the middle of Bachelor’s Degree, covering control systems and
power electronics. Practical experience is gained through laboratory sessions, where
students learn to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Advanced
degrees focusing on sustainable energy systems and industrial process optimization
can further enhance expertise.

Key Components of Sustainable Energy Systems

Sustainable energy systems in automated production environments rely on energy-

efficient technologies and robust automation systems. Key components include:

 Energy Management Systems (EMS): These monitor and control energy consumption,
ensuring efficient use of resources.
 Automated Control Systems: Incorporate sensors, actuators, controllers, and Human-
Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to maintain optimal conditions and improve productivity.

Safety and Maintenance Procedures

Adherence to strict electrical and production safety standards is paramount. This

includes:

 Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all electrical installations meet standards set by regulatory
bodies such as NEC and IEC.
 Preventive Maintenance: Conducting regular inspections and servicing to identify potential
issues before they escalate. This includes visual inspections, thermal imaging, and electrical
testing.
 Safety Measures: Implementing lockout/tagout procedures, grounding and bonding systems,
and providing personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent accidents.

Optimization and Monitoring

Optimal distribution and continuous monitoring of energy resources are essential for
maintaining efficiency. Methods include:

 Energy Audits: Regular audits to identify areas of high energy consumption and potential
savings.
 Load Management: Balancing energy use and reducing peak demand charges by scheduling
processes during off-peak hours.
 Real-Time Monitoring: Deploying systems to track energy usage and identify inefficiencies.
 Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitoring automated system metrics to identify
deviations and optimize processes. This involves analyzing power load management, peak
power control, and troubleshooting errors in system automation.

Practical Part as a beginner with Power engineer: Internship Experience

During my internship at Ravshan Yodik Production, I worked on several projects

aimed at improving productivity and implementing sustainable energy practices. Here
are some of the tasks and projects I was involved in under the guidance of an
electrical and power engineer instructor:

Energy Audits:

I assisted in conducting energy audits to identify areas where energy consumption could
be reduced. This involved measuring the energy usage of different machines and systems
within the plant and analyzing the data to find inefficiencies.

Automation and Control Systems:

I learned to work with automated control systems, including sensors and controllers that
help maintain optimal production conditions. I helped install and configure these systems
to ensure they operated efficiently and reliably.

Preventive Maintenance:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and efficiency of machinery. I

participated in preventive maintenance activities, such as inspecting electrical systems,
performing routine checks, and assisting with repairs when necessary.

Safety Procedures:

Safety is a top priority in any industrial setting. I learned about and followed strict safety
protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, to ensure a safe working environment.
This also involved participating in safety training sessions and drills.

Quality Control:

Ensuring the quality of the final products is essential. I assisted in monitoring the
production process and performing quality checks on the shrink and stretch films to
ensure they met the company's high standards.

Project on Increasing Productivity

One of the key projects I worked with my Instructor on during my internship was
aimed at increasing productivity within the company. This project involved several
steps:

Analyzing Current Production Processes:

I started by analyzing the existing production processes to identify bottlenecks and areas
where improvements could be made. This involved collecting data on machine
performance, energy usage, and production output.

Implementing Energy-Efficient Technologies:

Based on the analysis, I recommended and helped implement energy-efficient

technologies, such as variable frequency drives (VFDs) for motors and LED lighting, to
reduce energy consumption and improve machine efficiency.

Optimizing Automation Systems:

I worked with my Instructor on optimizing the automation systems by updating software

and re-configuring control settings. This helped improve the accuracy and responsiveness
of the production equipment, leading to higher productivity.

Training and Workshops:

To ensure the sustainability of the improvements, I conducted training sessions and

workshops for the plant staff. This included educating them on best practices for energy
management and efficient machine operation.

Continuous Monitoring and Feedback:

Finally, I set up a system for continuous monitoring and feedback. This involved
installing sensors and data loggers to track energy usage and machine performance in
real-time. The data collected was used to make further adjustments and improvements as
needed.

Conclusion

Using sustainable energy practices in automated systems is essential for improving

production efficiency and lowering environmental impact. Power engineers need to be
well-trained and possess the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively maintain
these systems. My internship at Ravshan Yodik Production provided me with
practical experience and a deeper understanding of these practices. Following safety
standards, performing regular maintenance, and optimizing energy use through
advanced monitoring techniques are crucial for achieving sustainable and efficient
production. Future technological advancements will continue to enhance these
capabilities, leading to a more sustainable industrial landscape.
