Learned 1- Keeping activities short and fun, make students respond well to lessons the activity. Since young learners have limited attention spans, it is important to include several short activities in a lesson and to move quickly from one activity to another to create a fun learning environment.
2- Turning vocabulary and dialogues into catchy songs is a fabulous
method for teaching to young learners. 3- Using storytelling to present phonics to engage students and give them a lifetime experience full of joy and fun.
4- Involving students in creating resources such as drawing pictures
of the characters they hear in a story or creating puppets to help retell a story helped support their learning.
5- Using activities that involve collaboration such as sequencing
pictures in a story, completing a puzzle or completing an information-gap task) worked best with young learners as it helped them to express their ideas, develop their self-confidence, as well as enhance their communication and critical thinking skills.
6- Using repetition is very important. Practice makes perfect and
repeating structures and language is incredibly important for language retention. The more students are exposed to certain material, the faster they will learn it.
7- Incorporating fun games and activities in teaching content is very
important. Learning through games helps students retain information. Associating words or sentence structures with certain activities can help kids recall them better.
8- Using a variety of media, such as podcasts, videos, news articles,
and music, helped students visualize new academic concepts and make learning fun and engaging.
9- Offering small rewards helped motivate the students.
10- Assigning a Little Teacher for kindergarten-age students helped to improve the child’s sense of importance and responsibility, in addition to driving language. 11- Using TPR (total physical response) is an effective technique for teaching young learners. Combining movement with language is a great way to keep the class active, focused, and from my experience, speed up the learning process. For example, we don’t just teach words like ‘close’ and ‘door’; we get students to get up and close the door while they say the words. Miming shapes, getting up and pointing to colors on the wall, all of these actions help young learners remember faster.
