BSF Leaders’ Meeting

Welcome!
Topic #1
Discussing Hard Topics
Training #1 - Discussing Hard Topics
➔ Hard situations will come! “In this life, you will have trouble…”
➔ GMs wonder if God’s Word truly speaks to their difficulties.
➔ It is not your place to have all the answers to their questions.
➔ You can assure them that God has the answers, and He cares.
➔ Entering a conversation around a hard topic might feel
uncomfortable, difficult, or scary.
➔ Remember that the Holy Spirit promises to give you the words
to speak.
Training #1 - Discussing Hard Topics

Quick tip -- the four A’s:

1. Acknowledge the individual
2. Allow exploration
3. Admit we need God’s help
4. Affirm a truth about God/people
Training #1 - Discussing Hard Topics
1. Acknowledge the Individual
Goal: Build a relationship of trust.
Thank you for sharing about your sister’s separation from her
husband. That is very hard.

2. Allow exploration
Goal: The individual feels loved/accepted led to God’s Word.
I wonder how this struggle is affecting you and your relationship
with them?
Training #1 - Discussing Hard Topics
3. Admit we need God’s help
Goal: Leader/GM humbly depend on God together for answers.
I have to remind myself that God personally loves me – He loves you and
longs to comfort you in any and every situation.

4. Affirm a truth about God and/or people

Goal: GM can hold on to a Biblical truth as they wrestle with the topic.
God loves and provides for us, especially in hard situations like this one.
Which need(s) could you ask God to provide for?
Remember...
● Hard conversations are opportunities for authentic
conversations around the real-life situations.
● Remember, you do not have to have all the answers. Rely on
the Holy Spirit to guide you.
● Hard conversations are opportunities to show others you
believe God has the answers they need for life!

Training #2 - Fellowship Tips
Meaningful Connection

Too often we engage in superficial small talk with shallow

questions such as “Where are you from?” and “What kind of work
do you do?”

Asking questions that draw out people’s stories builds

relationships.

Relating to one another through shared emotions and

experiences establishes meaningful connection.
Training #2 - Fellowship Tips
Notice – Notice something that genuinely intrigues or
interests you about a person.

Story – Ask them the story behind it.

Why – Dig deeper by asking “why?”

Training #2 - Fellowships: Ice Breaker Questions
❖ What is a takeaway you have learned so far this year? Or in this
week’s lesson?
❖ Where has God worked in your heart this year? This week?
❖ What has surprised you about this study so far?
❖ Tell us what has been most challenging for you – what has been
most helpful?
❖ Where has God changed your thinking? How has new thinking
impacted your behavior?
❖ How have you experienced God’s faithfulness, goodness, power
or conviction this week?
Last few reminders…
● Open and close in prayer! ☺

● Please remove any trash from room to the dumpster behind the FMC

● “In quietness and trust is your strength” -- Isaiah 30:15
