Question 2 (50 marks)
You are Jack Wilson. Last week, Jack accompanied his eight-year-old daughter Kate to have
a consultation with Dr Jones at St Peter’s Hospital in Aberdeen, Hong Kong. Kate suffered
from severe asthma and Dr Jones has been treating her since the initial consultation on 15
March. However, as Kate’s asthma was getting worse, Dr Jones refused to either examine
her chest and airways or make a referral to a specialist in the subsequent consultations.
At the most recent consultation on 2 June, Jack explained to Dr Jones how Kate had trouble
breathing at rest and asked Dr Jones to prescribe stronger medication. However, Dr Jones
refused to write a prescription and did not bother to examine Kate’s chest despite her
breathing difficulties. Two days later, Kate collapsed at school and was rushed to St
Andrew’s Hospital.
Jack was totally disappointed with how Kate was being treated by Dr Jones and decided to
file a complaint against him regarding his professional misconduct. In particular, Jack did not
understand why Kate was not being examined by the doctor and he was looking for an
apology from Dr Jones for the unnecessary stress and health condition Kate suffered
because of his inadequate care.

informative and logical. Remember that you will gain no marks by merely copying the
